Spend up to 6 months as a research fellow at the George Washington Library, located at George Washington’s Mount Vernon in Virginia, roughly 15 miles south of Washington, D.C.
Funded research opportunities are available to people researching the early American period, including:
- academics
- public historians
- independent scholars
- curators
- material culture / decorative arts professionals
- preservationists
- graduate students
The program is open to U.S. citizens and international applicants.
Award recipients receive housing, stipends, and travel reimbursement.
Stipends:
- $3,000 - fellowships less than three months
- $10,000 - three-month fellowships
- $20,000 - six-month fellowships
Round-trip airfare or mileage reimbursement for one trip to and from Mount Vernon (up to $1,000) is provided.
Applicants should submit:
- C.V. or resume
- Two letters of recommendation
- Proposal describing the project(s) to be worked on during the fellowship term and expected outcomes of the time. Proposals should be no more than six double‑spaced pages.
