Position

Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing district approved curriculum provided by the classroom teacher and creating a safe and optimal learning environment in the absence of the classroom teacher.

Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Follow the daily lessons created by the classroom teacher.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is faith‑filled, safe and conducive to student learning.
  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Cooperates with the building principal and other classroom teachers.
  • Maintains adequate, timely, and careful records of time in classroom.
  • Supports a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Implements the discipline plan in accordance with the school and diocesan policy.
  • Maintains student confidentiality.
  • Provides for the care of school property, equipment, and materials and reports and damage, issues, or problems to the building principal.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Performs all other duties reasonably related to position as may be assigned by Building Administrator or Superintendent.
Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

Travel Requirements

Travels to school as required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently move, stand, and lift up to 10 pounds, as well as be able to walk up and down steps several times each day and physically respond quickly in an emergency.

Qualifications
  • Hold an IL Professional Educator License (PEL) or Substitute Teacher License in the state of IL
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Must be knowledgeable of, and willing to promote, the Catholic faith
  • Must be familiar with the use of computers including but not limited to electronic mail, the Internet, Google Classroom, word processing, and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft Office / Google).
  • Establish and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with those contacted in the course of work (students, parents, and staff).
  • Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
  • Ability to understand instructions, concepts, and underlying principles.
  • Ability to understand meanings of words and ideas associated with them, and to transfer understandings to individuals and groups as necessary.
  • Ability to perform manual functions easily.
Experience

Successful prior teaching or substitute teacher experience preferred.
