Job Description Benefit Information

Eligibility for SEBB medical, dental, vision, life insurance, AD&D, and LTD if anticipated to reach 630 hours in the school year. Eligibility for retirement based on 3.50 hrs/day or more for 5 or more consecutive months. Optional tax‑sheltered annuities:
Omni 403(b) and Deferred Compensation Plan. Personal leave, vacation leave (260‑day employees only), and sick leave prorated based on FTE.

Dates: July 6 – August 13, Monday – Thursday, 4 days/week, 3.5 hours/day

Position Summary

The Para educator’s primary assignment will be working in a classroom with high‑needs students, under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher and building principal. Students exhibit significant cognitive needs and are identified by an Individualized Educational Program. Programs may include Structured Learning Classroom (SLC), Intensive Learning Classroom (ILC), or Quest Program.

General Responsibilities
  • Support the students’ educational needs both within and away from the classroom.
  • Assist in implementing social skills and behavioral programs and interact with students to support positive behavior management.
  • Prepare materials for classroom use under teacher supervision and maintain accurate records on student progress in intensive classroom settings.
  • Deliver lessons relevant to the student’s goals and objectives under the direction of the cooperating teacher; demonstrate flexibility.
  • Work collaboratively with students and other professionals in general education settings.
  • Provide supervision for Special Program students in non‑academic settings (e.g., playground, bus duty).
  • Support students in personal areas as needed (e.g., toileting, personal care, escalated behavioral management).
  • Perform other duties as required from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree or higher, or two years of college (72 quarter credits), or ability to meet State‑determined performance standards in reading, math, and writing (Parapro assessment).
  • Previous experience working with significantly impacted school‑age students preferred.
  • Bilingual or biliterate in Spanish preferred and/or may be required.
  • Hold or ability to obtain Right Response Certification or equivalent.
  • Interest in working with students with disabilities is required.
  • Ability to operate basic computer/Chromebook including Google applications.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability and willingness to work with students and adults from various backgrounds.
  • Organizational skills and flexibility to respond to changing student needs.
  • Function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress.
  • Exercise careful judgment, confidentiality, and tact in the performance of duties.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions and be able to work independently.
  • Exhibit professional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Hold or ability to obtain Valid First Aid certificate and CPR training.
  • Maintain consistent attendance at assigned worksite and regular work hours specified under contract.
  • Must comply with all district policies and with the code of professional conduct.
