Dual Language Elementary School Assistant Principal
The Assistant Principal at Little Mountain Elementary School supports the Principal in providing instructional, operational, and equity-centered leadership within a dual language learning environment. This role plays a critical part in advancing the school's Spanish–English dual language program by supporting high-quality instruction, bilingualism, biliteracy, and cultural competence for all students. The Assistant Principal collaborates closely with staff, students, families, and the broader community to foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging school climate grounded in respect for linguistic and cultural diversity.
Responsibilities include supporting instructional improvement and curriculum alignment in both languages, promoting data-informed decision-making, strengthening family and community partnerships, leading restorative and preventative student discipline practices, and ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal requirements. The Assistant Principal leads with an equity lens to close opportunity gaps and ensure that all students—particularly historically underserved learners—receive the instruction and support needed to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key responsibilities include:
School Leadership and Administration
- Assist the Principal in the general administration and daily operations of the school, including implementation of district initiatives, school improvement plans, and assigned administrative duties.
- Confer regularly with the Principal to align leadership actions, priorities, and decision-making.
- Serve as an effective and collaborative member of the school and district administrative teams.
- Manage time, responsibilities, and competing priorities independently and effectively.
Instructional Leadership and Dual Language Program Support
- Provide leadership and support for the Spanish–English dual language instructional model, ensuring fidelity to a 90/10 immersion framework.
- Experience or knowledge in dual language programming, language acquisition, and bilingual development to lead and support equitable instructional practices in service of the academic success of multilingual students.
- Support staff in designing and implementing engaging, rigorous, and culturally responsive instruction in both English and Spanish.
- Assist teachers with curriculum alignment to local, state, and national standards and support aligned assessment practices.
- Use the district-adopted instructional framework to observe instruction, provide feedback, and support continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with staff to develop student growth plans and identify appropriate sources of evidence for instructional impact.
- Promote bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural competence through instructional practices and school wide initiatives.
Equity, Culture, and Climate
- Lead with an equity lens to ensure all students—particularly historically underserved and marginalized populations—receive appropriate instruction, access, and support.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in leadership practices, policies, and daily interactions.
- Foster a positive, inclusive school climate that promotes belonging, respect, kindness, and high expectations for all students.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the diverse cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds of students and families.
- Build and sustain collaborative, respectful, and authentic relationships with students, staff, and families.
Student Support, Discipline, and Safety
- Lead and support an effective student discipline system that emphasizes preventative, restorative, and proactive approaches.
- Promote social, emotional, intellectual, and physical safety for students and staff.
- Use diplomacy, tact, and effective communication to de-escalate conflict and resolve concerns.
- Support classroom instruction by addressing student needs and removing barriers to learning.
