The Decision Support lead, in addition to the responsibilities of interpreting and communicating the state of Skagit Regional Health finances, is required to demonstrate strong mentorship and coaching, be a point of escalation, and successfully implement continuous improvement initiatives and be a critical partner in the organization. The incumbent must be able to identify trends and developments in healthcare finance working to identify strategic plans to adapt to changing requirements.

These activities include developing and implementing the tools required for Skagit Regional Health to be financially competitive in the market, facilitating in their use across a wide range of stakeholders in addition to those on the decision support and other finance teams. The incumbent is responsible for the accuracy and appropriateness of data when data presentation is required to deduce action or illustrate concepts.

The incumbent must apply complex critical thinking and continuously adapt as regulatory, market, and payor actions exert competitive pressure on the Skagit Regional Health Organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Facilitate team meetings and working groups.
  • Assign tasks to team members and ensure completion of tasks.
  • Model and assist with execution of standard operating procedures and operates as the subject matter expert.
  • Assist with communication of priorities.
  • Act as an escalation point for issues and use sound judgment to escalate issues to management as needed.
  • Demonstrate Lean Thinking in approaching problems and opportunities to ensure key processes are continuously improved and implementing those improvements.
  • Under the direction of the Finance Manager, responsible for the financial tools of budgeting, statistical rate analysis, cost accounting, and electronic medical record systems with a special emphasis on patient charge details including CPT & ICD coding systems, as well as reimbursement rules.
  • Responsible for the auditing of said tools and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.
  • Constantly seeking to define and develop new ways of financial understanding; is attuned to data presentation and presentation tools.
  • Research and prepare special reports for management.
  • Develop, document and update procedures related to functional responsibilities.
  • Develops collaboration and ensures response to customer inquiries aligns with Departmental and organizational service standard expectations.
  • Comply with all Skagit Regional Health policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required. Advanced degree in a healthcare or finance related field of study (Business, Economics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Law), preferred.

Experience/Training:
Minimum five (5) years of current public and healthcare Finance experience, required. A Master's degree in either Healthcare Administration or Masters in Business Administration may be held in lieu of experience;
Master's degree required prior to start date. Two years of data base management experience required.

License/

Certifications:

Current Certified Healthcare Financial Professional (CHFP) or other related finance certification preferred.

Other

Skills:

Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills required. Successful customer service, time management and organizational skills necessary. Commitment to quality and collaboration in a team based environment. Experience with EPIC, EPSi, KRONOS and/or similar financial reporting systems is required. Strong intermediate or expert knowledge of approaches to Cost Accounting. Strong analytical experience with integrating clinical and financial reporting. Experience with governmental accounting principles and procedures preferred.
