Position: Community Corrections Officer 2 (Or CCO1 In-Training) - Mount Vernon

Community Corrections Officer 2 (CCO2)

Location:

Mount Vernon, WA

Salary: CCO1 – $4,603.00 to $6,190.00/month; CCO2 – $5,610.00 to $7,540.00/month (salary depends on qualifications). Minimum starting salary for a CCO1 placement begins at Step G ($5,338.00/monthly).

Responsibilities
  • Supervise criminal individuals (S/Is) under community supervision.
  • Conduct investigations, searches, issue warrants, and make arrests.
  • Complete intake and administer risk, needs, and substance abuse assessments.
  • Manage electronic and hardcopy files and reports.
  • Engage S/Is using communication strategies, motivational interviewing, and principles of effective interventions.
  • Enforce supervision conditions and the law, present documentation and testimony, and recommend sanctions.
  • Collect, process, and maintain evidence and information with proper chain of custody.
  • Maintain firearms safety and operation per department policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum

Required Qualifications – CCO1 (In‑training)
  • Carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
  • Hold an unrestricted Washington vehicle operator’s license.
  • Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds; review graphic materials; remain objective.
  • Demonstrated ability through college coursework or experience in at least three of the following skills:
    • Written communication
    • Critical thinking
    • Analytical reasoning
    • Conflict resolution
    • Situational awareness
    • Problem solving
    • Organizational skill
    • Independent work
    • Flexibility
  • Education and experience combinations:
    • High school diploma or GED with at least four years of relevant experience.
    • Associate or technical degree with two years of relevant experience.
    • Any bachelor’s degree satisfies the requirement.
    • Or an equivalent combination totaling four years of experience.
Minimum

Required Qualifications – CCO2
  • Carry and properly utilize a department‑issued firearm.
  • Hold an unrestricted Washington vehicle operator’s license.
  • Willingness to work with individuals with criminal backgrounds; review graphic materials; remain objective.
  • Demonstrated ability through college coursework or professional experience in at least three of the following:
    • Field visits
    • Written correspondence and reports
    • Case assessment and recommendation
    • Resource referral and presentation in court or hearings
    • Risk factor assessments
    • Treatment plan design and monitoring
    • Case management decisions under stress
    • Computer and data entry skills
    • Managing conflicting caseload priorities
    • Community resource identification
    • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Education and experience combinations:
    • One year of experience as a CCO within DOC.
    • Associate or technical degree with three years of relevant experience.
    • Bachelor’s degree with one year of relevant experience.
    • Or an equivalent combination totaling five years of experience.
Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment
  • Complete a felony disclosure form and undergo criminal background check.
  • Pass a psychological screening (Battery Exam and Psychological Interview/Evaluation).
  • Undergo drug testing per agency policy.
  • Complete mandatory employee orientation, annual, in‑service, and other required training.
  • Familiarize with and comply with all department policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Complete Firearms Academy and Control/Impedance Tactics training within prescribed time frames, including maintaining weapon qualifications and CIT certifications.
