The City of Mount Vernon has an exciting opportunity for experienced police officers who have a passion for community service and are looking for a new opportunity to serve the City of Mount Vernon.

The Mount Vernon Police Department is now offering a $25,000 lateral signing bonus OR the option of a $20,000 signing bonus with an 80-hour vacation bank for lateral entry police officers payable in three installments.
Essential functions include patrolling a designated area of the city, enforcing traffic and parking ordinances, issuing citations, responding to reports of possible crime, performing guard duty, and testifying in court.
Qualifications include being at least 21 years of age, having a high school diploma or GED, and a minimum of 90 quarter hours at an accredited college or university. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency is required. Applicants must pass an oral civil service examination, background investigation, polygraph examination, psychological examination, and medical examination.
Knowledge of federal and state laws, modern police methods, and investigative techniques is required. Skills include the use and care of firearms, investigative techniques, and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
