The EMS Instructor/Evaluator - EMT is responsible for assisting with the delivery of training and education content to the general public as well as emergency medical services personnel and other first responders. Course instruction may include but is not limited to:
Basic first aid, CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed®, First on the Scene™, EMS ongoing training & evaluation program (OTEP), and others as approved by the EMS Training Specialist.

Salary upon hire is $32.76/hour.

The EMS Instructor/Evaluator - EMT is range 14 of the General (Non-Union) salary schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides instruction and evaluation of assigned health and safety course curriculum which may include: lecture, hands‑on skill instruction and performance evaluation.
  • Coordinates setting up and taking down skills stations and/or classrooms.
  • Completes and compiles required documentation.
  • Participates in scenario‑based simulations and provides constructive feedback on student performance.
  • Works collaboratively with EMS Training Specialist, Medical Program Director, and other staff.
  • Ensures that delivery of training and education content conforms to relevant EMS education standards, Washington State Department of Health EMS Training Program and Instructor Guidelines and Skagit County EMS Patient Care Protocols and Medical Program Director expectations.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Performs additional training duties as assigned by the EMS Training Specialist. Performs related duties as required. Related duties as required are duties that may not be specifically listed in the Position Description but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee’s classification of work.

QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical path to obtaining the required qualifications would be:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
  • Current certification as a Washington State Emergency Medical Technician
  • Current certification as a Washington State EMS Evaluator (ESE), or meets eligibility requirements to obtain at time of hire
  • Minimum of 3 years field experience as a certified Washington State Emergency Medical Technician
  • Previous health and safety related instructional experience desirable.
REQUIRES KNOWLEDGE OF
  • Skagit County EMS Patient Care Guidelines, Protocols, and Procedures
  • Washington State Department of Health EMS Training Program and Instructor Manual and EMS Practical Skill Evaluation Guidelines
  • General office practices and procedures. Knowledge of and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite of products.
  • Understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
  • Understanding of kinesiology in relation to mechanism of injury patterns secondary to trauma.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective education and training curriculum development and instructor techniques.
REQUIRES THE ABILITY TO
  • Communicate effectively in both oral and written format.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Skagit County EMS providers, public and private officials, the public and other agency personnel, including hospital staff and administrators.
  • Organize and prioritize workload and work in a multi‑agency environment.
  • Work effectively with varied and diverse students and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service, including building and maintaining internal/external customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain frequent and effective communication with the EMS Training Specialist
  • Adapt to a varied schedule.
  • Travel between Skagit County EMS Office and various other agency training locations across Skagit County.
LICENSES and/or CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Washington State Driver’s license and a current Washington State EMT certification required, Washington State EMS Evaluator certification or eligibility AND ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
