Overview
Director of Philanthropy & Development position at Skagit Valley Family YMCA in Mount Vernon, WA. This association-level role builds, maintains, and executes fundraising, communications, and community engagement strategies. The Director leads donor relations, campaigns, legacy/planned giving, grants, and appears as the primary communications and website content creator. The role reports to the Chief Executive Officer and partners with the executive leadership team to drive capital and fundraising campaigns and related initiatives.
Responsibilities- Lead all philanthropic activities, including periodic appeals, annual giving campaigns, donor development (minor and major), and legacy/planned giving. Develop and leverage compelling cases for support to grow donor engagement and revenues.
- Plan and execute capital campaigns; build and steward donor networks; secure paid and in-kind sponsors; activate funding intentions as needed.
- Provide strategic leadership for grant development and management; supervise Grant Manager; set grant priorities; oversee submission, administration, compliance, and reporting of grants; support cross-departmental funding efforts.
- Manage Events and Development Coordinator to position the organization positively in the community, secure sponsorship revenue, and manage the annual event calendar and related opportunities.
- Lead internal and external communications; support marketing playbook; act as main media relations contact; serve as lead content creator for the association website.
- Oversee donor management systems, including CRM, legacy/non-cash giving portals, and website integrations; may support membership and childcare customer management systems.
- Collaborate with the CEO, Executive Team, and Event Coordinator to plan and execute annual community events.
- Source and prioritize multiple funding strategies in collaboration with executive leadership to support Social Impact, Healthy Living, and Youth Development divisions.
- Public speaking, donor networking, and donor relations; represent the YMCA in public/private settings as needed.
- Manage annual and periodic budget responsibilities including contribution revenues, marcom expenses, event costs, and communications expenses.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office and marcom design/creation tools; familiarity with CRM and website management is preferred.

- Bachelor’s degree plus five years of fundraising, or equivalent experience and/or relevant certification. Experience in fundraising, marketing/communications, and nonprofit development; event management experience preferred.
- Ability to identify and develop long-term funding models to support sustainable community services and capital campaigns.
- Technical proficiency in MS Office; experience with CRM and website management; ability to research, track, report, and communicate data.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for engagement with funders, the community, and stakeholders.
- Ability to manage media relations and multiple projects with strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Data analysis and storytelling skills related to community impact reporting.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and navigate fast-paced, evolving environments while remaining mission-aligned.
