Wildland Fire Management Supervisor
).

The DNR Northeast Region is looking for a Foreman to join and help lead our 20-person Highlands 20 Hand Crew.

This position will assist in the supervision of our Initial Attack Handcrew, located in Loomis, WA. The role represents the Department and the Region when interacting with other Federal, Local, and State agencies and must maintain solid working relationships with these cooperating agencies. The position also interacts and coordinates with Region support and business staff on a daily basis. In addition to suppression work, the handcrew supports DNR’s Forest Resiliency and Community Resiliency Programs in the form of fuel reduction projects and other assigned projects.

The role helps meet wildland fire suppression needs and associated activities during the active fire season. The position is considered a regional resource and will be expected to travel frequently during fire season. When the crews are not engaged on fires, they can be sent on fire assignments out of region or country and are also available for prescribed burning and other projects throughout the region.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct fireline supervision of hand crew members who respond to grass, brush, and forest fires and are available for district, regional, statewide, and/or interagency dispatch.
  • On initial attack fires, may perform ICs functions as Incident Commander Type 4 and 5 or other duties as needed.
  • Plan and implement training for hand crew members, and may be asked to instruct or participate in DNR Fire Academies.
  • Prescribed Fire Support – Lead crew to conduct site fuels and fire effects data collection, unit preparation, assist with burn plan writing, community outreach, and Rx burn implementation support to include firing, holding, burn boss, etc. Be an active and positive influence and help maintain strong team cohesion within the 20-person crew on a day-to‑day basis.
  • Work in remote areas away from vehicles for long periods of time.
  • Work in extremely rugged terrain.
  • Travel for extended periods of time (for multiple weeks) to assist on fires within the region, other regions, or states for large fires.
  • Provide recommendations and assistance during the seasonal hiring process, including conducting seasonal firefighter interviews and onboarding.
  • Ensure all required reports are complete and submitted by the required dates.
Required Qualifications
  • Experience in wildland fire suppression tactics and fire behavior recognition.
  • NWCG Qualified as:
    • Firefighter Type 1
    • Incident Commander Type 5
  • Supervisory experience.
