Position Summary

Spring Meadows seeks a dynamic, resilient, and certified Secondary Teacher to join our education team. This role is ideal for an educator who is passionate about supporting students with significant behavioral and emotional needs.

The teacher will serve as a facilitator of learning, primarily using the Edgenuity online curriculum to deliver core content. A key component of this role involves supplementing this digital curriculum with targeted, direct instruction and developing engaging, hands‑on Project‑Based Learning (PBL) opportunities across all core subjects (Math, English, Social Studies, and Science).

The ideal candidate will possess strong classroom management skills, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to build positive, professional relationships in a non‑traditional school setting.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum

  • Facilitate student learning and monitor progress within the Edgenuity online learning platform.
  • Develop and deliver supplemental, differentiated, and high‑impact lessons to support and extend learning in all core subjects.
  • Design, implement, and manage cross‑curricular Project‑Based Learning (PBL) units to foster critical thinking, collaboration, and real‑world application.
  • Serve as the teacher of record, responsible for all academic and administrative tasks for assigned students.

Classroom Management and Student Support

  • Establish and maintain a highly structured, safe, and trauma‑informed classroom environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Build positive, professional, and appropriate mentor‑based relationships with students, modeling prosocial behaviors and healthy boundaries.
  • Implement the facility’s behavioral management system, using de‑escalation techniques and positive reinforcement consistent with a therapeutic environment.
  • Address the unique academic and emotional needs of students, adapting instruction to meet a wide range of ability levels.

Collaboration and Administration

  • Collaborate effectively with other teachers, therapists, case managers, and residential staff as part of a cohesive treatment team.
  • Participate actively in student meetings, including IEPs, 504s, and treatment team reviews, to provide data and academic insights.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records, including attendance, grades, progress monitoring, and incident reports.
  • Engage in all required staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications and Requirements

Required:

  • A valid state teaching certification at the secondary level (or 6‑12 / 7‑12) in at least one of the following subjects:
    • Mathematics
    • English Language Arts
    • Social Studies
    • Science
    • Special Ed. LBD – Must be Dual Certified at EPSB in middle or high
  • Strong classroom management skills and a willingness to work with a challenging student population.
  • Experience with or a strong desire to learn and implement Project‑Based Learning (PBL).
  • Ability to pass all required background checks, drug screenings, and child welfare checks.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in an alternative, residential, or therapeutic school setting.
  • Experience in supplementing and facilitating online learning platforms.
  • Training in trauma‑informed care, crisis intervention, or de‑escalation.
