Secondary 9-12 Social Studies Teacher
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Building Principal, the Secondary 9-12 Social Studies Teacher is responsible for fostering in students an understanding and appreciation of American ideals and cultural heritage while developing proficiency in social studies content, inquiry skills, and project-based learning practices. The teacher will promote civic responsibility, critical analysis, and informed decision-making, enabling students to understand and exercise their rights and responsibilities as citizens in a complex and interconnected world.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in social studies, history, geography, American government, political science, humanities, and related subjects in alignment with Board‑approved curriculum and state standards.
- Deliver instruction in citizenship and required subject matter in accordance with Idaho state law and district regulations.
- Design and implement a balanced and rigorous social studies program incorporating historical context, current events, inquiry‑based discussion, and project-based learning.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse intellectual, cultural, and developmental needs of students.
- Develop student understanding of the structure, purpose, and function of American governmental and economic systems, including the rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
- Integrate current events and media resources to enhance learning and promote thoughtful discussion of contemporary issues within historical and geographic contexts.
- Promote understanding of the contributions of diverse racial, religious, and political groups to American society.
- Cultivate awareness of global political and economic systems and their impact on freedom, education, and quality of life.
- Encourage students to examine the complexity and interrelationship of local, state, national, and global issues.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior that ensure a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Select instructional materials and resources; maintain required inventory records; and coordinate guest speakers and field experiences as appropriate.
- Identify student needs and collaborate with colleagues and support staff to address academic, behavioral, and social‑emotional concerns.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, guardians, counselors, and administrators regarding student progress.
- Supervise students during assigned instructional and non-instructional periods.
- Participate in curriculum development, school improvement initiatives, and faculty committees.
- Sponsor and support student activities, clubs, and co‑curricular programs as assigned.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain and enhance instructional effectiveness.
- Participate in the evaluation process in accordance with state and district guidelines.

- Knowledge of Idaho Social Studies Standards and Board‑adopted curriculum guidelines.
Education and Certification Requirements
- Valid Idaho teaching certificate with appropriate subject‑area endorsement, or enrollment in an approved alternative certification program leading to licensure.
