Position Summary:

The Director of Student Success provides leadership and oversight for the Student Success Center at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) and leads institutional efforts designed to support student engagement, persistence, retention, and completion.
The Director of Student Success oversees academic advising, retention initiatives, student success programming, Early Alert interventions, and other services designed to help students successfully navigate their educational experience. This position provides leadership to Student Success Center staff and works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and campus departments to identify barriers to student success and develop strategies that connect students with the resources, information, and support needed to achieve their educational goals.
The Director of Student Success is responsible for the daily operation of the Student Success Center, including supervision and development of staff, management of departmental budgets and resources, assessment of services and outcomes, and implementation of programs that foster a welcoming, student-centered campus environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Administration
  • Provide leadership, direction, and daily oversight for the Student Success Center and its programs, services, and operations.
  • Supervise four direct reports, including establishing performance expectations, providing coaching and professional development, conducting performance evaluations, and addressing performance concerns as appropriate.
  • Manage the Student Success Center budget and ensure responsible allocation and use of departmental resources.
  • Establish procedures and service expectations that promote consistent, high-quality, student-centered support.
  • Participate in institutional planning, committees, and initiatives related to student success, retention, enrollment, and completion.
  • Remain knowledgeable of institutional policies, academic requirements, student services, and best practices related to student success.
2. Academic Advising and Student Support
  • Provide leadership and oversight for academic advising services offered through the Student Success Center.
  • Ensure students receive accurate, timely, and meaningful academic advising and registration assistance.
  • Develop and maintain advising procedures, resources, training, and expectations for Student Success Center staff and faculty advisors.
  • Monitor advising practices and documentation to promote consistency, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Assist staff with complex student situations and provide direct student support when necessary.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, the Registrar, Admissions, Financial Aid, and other campus offices to address student needs and improve the student experience.
  • Serve as the primary advisor for 60 student athletes, ensuring academic compliance with the NJCAA.
  • Promote proactive outreach to students at critical points throughout the student lifecycle.
3. Retention and Student Success
  • Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of institutional retention and student success initiatives.
  • Coordinate Early Alert efforts and other proactive interventions for students who may be experiencing academic, attendance, financial, personal, or other barriers to success.
  • Develop strategies to improve student persistence, retention, and completion.
  • Identify students or student populations that may benefit from additional outreach, resources, or intervention.
  • Coordinate outreach to students who stop attending, withdraw, fail to register for subsequent semesters, or otherwise demonstrate indicators of potential attrition.
  • Connect students with appropriate campus and community resources, including tutoring, financial assistance, counseling, accessibility services, food assistance, career services, and other support.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify emerging student needs and develop appropriate interventions.
4. Student Orientation, Engagement and Programming
  • Coordinate the New Student Orientation program each semester to provide students with a solid foundation for student success.
