Surgical Assistant
Job Description
Step into a surgical services travel role supporting a small, tightly connected OR team in Mountain Home, Idaho. This contract is for an OR RN who will rotate through pre‑op, OR suite coverage, and PACU responsibilities as scheduled, working with an average of 4 cases on Mondays and Wednesdays (with colonoscopies/endoscopies and related procedures concentrated on Wednesdays), 3–4 cases on Tuesdays (GYN), and a lighter Thursday schedule unless an emergent case appears.
Fridays typically run around 5 cases.
You’ll work 12‑hour night shifts with a team structure built around 4 RNs per shift: 1 in pre‑op, 1 in the OR, 1 in PACU, and 1 float who may also be asked to assist other areas when surgeries are light. The pace is intentionally unhurried, leaving meaningful downtime while still keeping you ready to jump in as cases come through.
Everyone stays until patients are out of PACU, with a shift end at 1930—though the team may depart at 1630 when there are no cases (while remaining available for call‑back if needed).
Common procedures you can expect include cholecystectomies, appendectomies, hernia repairs, abdominal hysterectomies, hysteroscopies, D&C, colonoscopies, endoscopies, and C‑sections (typically without ongoing baby‑ready RT involvement for every case). There is an on‑site backup structure with L&D RN support available as needed, and ANM oversees surgical services—this role is defined by teamwork, flexibility, and hands‑on perioperative coverage.
