Job Summary

Archaeologist – Technical Report Writer will be responsible for developing the Advanced Draft Report, Draft Report, and Final Report using fieldwork documentation, project data, and supporting materials for a federal agency project.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Prepare a comprehensive archaeological report based on completed field investigations and supporting project documentation
  • Develop and submit the Advanced Draft, Draft, and Final Report in accordance with project requirements and established deadlines
  • Review field notes, technical data, photographs, maps, records, and other materials provided by the fieldwork subcontractor
  • Coordinate directly with the subcontractor to obtain necessary information, clarify field findings, and resolve data gaps
  • Accurately synthesize archaeological field data and findings into clear, technically sound written documentation
  • Ensure reports comply with applicable project, agency, and federal reporting standards
  • Review and respond to government comments following each report submission
  • Fully incorporate requested revisions and document responses to reviewer comments as required
  • Maintain consistency, accuracy, and quality throughout all versions of the report
  • Coordinate with agency personnel regarding schedules, deliverables, review comments, and project status

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Strong technical writing, editing, and document development skills.
  • Familiarity with federal cultural resources compliance requirements, including Section 110, Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA)
  • Ability to interpret archaeological field documentation and translate field findings into comprehensive written reports.
  • Experience working with field data and documentation produced by other archaeologists or subcontractors.
  • Ability to independently manage writing assignments and meet firm project deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately incorporate reviewer comments and revisions.
  • Strong written communication and coordination skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment.
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive or controlled project information in accordance with client, contractual, and Department of Defense data-handling requirements
Education and Experience
  • Required:

    Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a closely related field
  • Required:

    Successful completion of an accredited archaeological field school
  • Required:

    Minimum of three (3) years of professional archaeological report-writing experience.
  • Required:

    Writing samples are required for consideration. Candidates must provide relevant professional or academic writing samples demonstrating their ability to prepare archaeological, cultural resources, or comparable technical reports.
Physical Requirements
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, etc.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position, primarily seated, for extended periods while performing computer-based work
