The Directional Drilling Operator safely operates, sets up, and maintains horizontal drilling equipment to install underground utilities like fiber, conduits, and pipes. Duties include reading blueprints, locating existing utilities, navigating bore paths using locating systems, and performing daily maintenance to ensure precise and safe operations. This role requires physical labor, teamwork, focus on safety, and the ability to follow instructions in various outdoor environments.
Travel (sometimes out of state) to the various job sites is required. Must have CDL.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Safely operate directional bore machines, trenchers, and excavators in install underground utilities.
- Collaborate with locators to interpret utility maps, blueprints, and bore plans.
- Maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Load equipment and transport machinery.
- Assisting with tasks like fusing HDPE pipe sections, assembling fittings, and aligning and sealing pipe parts.
- Performing basic maintenance and checks on equipment.
- Must have a valid CDL state driver’s license (CDL required)
- Must be legally qualified to work in the U.S. with appropriate documentation (E-Verify)
- Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the knowledge and ability to perform the work. 1-2 years of experience in HDD operation or construction preferred
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk, and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor
- Understanding of drilling parameters, soil conditions, and locating systems
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
- Willingness and ability to travel out of state
