About

the Role

We are seeking an Information Designer / Data Visualization Specialist (IC3) who thinks like an editor to join our close-knit design team. In this role, you will operate as an independent professional, transforming messy, complex economic and financial datasets into clear, accurate, and impactful information graphics. Reporting directly to the Creative Director, you will act as a critical bridge between data journalism and consumer visual design.

You will work with minimal daily guidance to shape visual narratives across our web, mobile, social, and video platforms. To thrive in this fast-paced newsroom environment, you will actively incorporate AI-augmented data parsing and generative design workflows to speed up production turnaround times, eliminating transactional overhead while maintaining a meticulous standard of visual craft, clarity, and journalistic integrity.

What You'll Do
  • Data Visualization & Editorial Architecture: Concept, design, and render high-fidelity charts, diagrams, map modules, and complex explanatory information graphics for daily news articles, marquee features, special editorial projects, and high-volume subscriber newsletters.
  • Complex Narrative Translation: Parse sophisticated financial and macroeconomic concepts-including earnings reports, inflationary prints, federal interest rate pivots, and structural market trend lines-translating them into clear, intuitive visual assets for a global general audience.
  • Proactive Visual Journalism: Collaborate directly with reporters, data analysts, and executive editors early in the investigative cycle, independently identifying and pitching strategic data visualization opportunities that deepen storytelling impact.
  • Breaking News Production Automation: Support real-time market events and breaking news spikes by deploying automated chart frameworks and generative data tools to rapidly build, refine, and ship accurate, clearly sourced informational graphics at speed.
  • Systemic Template Governance: Architect, maintain, and expand an enterprise-level library of data visualization templates and standardized component patterns (e.g., inside Data wrapper, Flourish, or Figma) to optimize production speeds and secure visual branding uniformity across platforms.
  • AI-Augmented Information Processing: Utilize generative AI tools and large language models to quickly digest, sort, and summarize raw unstructured data files or text heavy earnings charts before executing visual mappings.
  • Programmatic Design Scaling: Implement automated workflow scripting to replace repetitive layout versioning configurations, facilitating seamless translation of charts across distinct desktop, responsive mobile, and short-form social formats.
  • Cross-Functional Advocacy: Present layout logic and structural design rationale in cross-functional standups, establishing and documenting best practices for data storytelling across editorial, social media, marketing, and product development units.
Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional experience specializing in information design, data visualization, or editorial graphics within a digital newsroom, publishing platform, asset management firm, or media entity.
  • Verified portfolio demonstrating advanced execution across data visualization, informational graphics, explanatory layouts, and a firm command of typography, composition, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
  • Expert operational proficiency…
