Senior Project Manager

This is a confidential search for an experienced architectural project manager who can lead complex projects with a high degree of independence. Candidates should be based in the Bay Area or able to work locally as required by the position.

Job Description:

The Senior Project Manager will plan, coordinate, and administer one or more complex architectural projects through all phases of development, from pre-design and schematic design through construction administration and closeout. This individual will establish project budgets and schedules, oversee design development and construction documentation, and serve as a primary point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and reviewing agencies. The successful candidate will understand project flow, building systems, codes, detailing, permitting, and approvals, and will be able to direct project activities and resolve issues with limited day-to-day oversight from the Principal in charge.

• Lead project teams through pre-design, schematic design, design development, construction documentation, agency approval, bidding, construction administration, and project closeout.
• Develop project scopes, fee estimates, proposals, schedules, and budgets; actively monitor progress, staffing needs, deadlines, and financial performance.
• Lead project meetings and client presentations, and ensure decisions, responsibilities, and next steps are clearly documented.
• Coordinate external engineering and specialty consultants throughout each phase of design and documentation.
• Schedule and participate in internal quality reviews of drawings and specifications, confirming alignment with firm standards, building systems, code requirements, constructability, and overall project quality.
• Lead agency review and approval efforts, including coordination with building officials and timely responses to plan-check comments, with support from the Principal as appropriate.
• Manage construction administration activities, including shop-drawing and submittal reviews, responses to requests for information, and issuance of drawing and specification changes.
• Provide clear direction, mentorship, and technical guidance to project staff while fostering accountability, collaboration, and professional development.
• Identify and help resolve internal and external team conflicts, taking ownership of project execution, communication, and quality.

• Education and Experience Requirements:
  
  10 or more years of architectural project management experience preferred, including demonstrated success independently leading complex projects from design through construction administration.

• Strong technical knowledge of building codes, construction methods, detailing, specifications, and construction documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to review architectural drawings and details for technical accuracy, constructability, code compliance, and quality.
• Experience independently coordinating multidisciplinary engineering and specialty consultants.
• Proven ability to work directly with clients, contractors, city agencies, building officials, and other project stakeholders without significant Principal-level oversight.

• 10 or more years of architectural project management experience preferred, including demonstrated success independently leading complex projects from design through construction administration.
