The Data Center Colocation Engineering Team owns the lifecycle of AWS’s colocation data center sites. This Document Control Program Engineer role is located in Mountain View, CA.
The role supports new COLO evaluations against AWS standards, new COLO designs, innovations through data center end-of-life, focusing on root cause analysis of failures, capacity and availability improvement, and optimization of the existing COLO fleet.

- Have experience with data center technologies like HVAC, power systems, cable plant, server, or networking.
- Adept at identifying and communicating upcoming risks, issues, and bottlenecks, and instrumental in resolving them across multiple departmental boundaries.
- Strong organization, communication, and team building skills fostering robust relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage Colocation Engineering Design scopes of work in collaboration with regional teams.
- Manage the Colocation Design Engineering scope and portfolio including schedule, budget, resources, quality, risk management, reporting, and metric development/tracking.
- Create strong end-to-end processes for the Colocation Engineering team, including alignment and validation of success through metrics-based criteria.
- Interface with Engineering teams and business partners to promote standards that maintain consistency and reliability in deliverables; standardize inputs/outputs globally.
- Own and track budgets and internal-program schedules for the Colocation Engineering scopes.
- Prepare narratives for executive leadership with recommendations articulating decision points relative to costs, timelines, customer metrics, and strategic trade-offs.
- Learn and understand the AWS data center lifecycle specific to Colocation sites and Engineering globally.
- Provide direct support to Colocation Engineering teams including trainings.
In this role you will drive engineering and program strategy and deployment planning, ensuring execution by engineering teams. You will leverage data, working backwards to develop schedules and milestones, generate and maintain enhanced reporting, define and track meaningful KPIs, and identify process and tooling improvements to enhance team efficiency. You will ensure portfolio visibility to stakeholders and leadership, partner with business development, multiple engineering teams, supply chain partners, operations teams, and project execution and delivery teams regularly.
You will make strategic decisions regarding scopes and overall direction for engineering teams, connecting long‑term strategies with rapid growth patterns of AWS and guiding operational needs of the business.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- NETA or ASHRAE certification or commissioning specific education courses
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience with the design, construction, operation, or maintenance of mission critical facilities, especially data centers
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
- Knowledge of commercial or industrial power systems or mechanical systems
