About the Role
Lanteris Space is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Configuration organization at our offices in Mountain View, California. The Mechanical Configuration organization is responsible for the spacecraft‑level layout design. This top‑level design requires accommodating all subsystems compatibly during all phases of the spacecraft mission. Our team converts Systems Engineering book‑form specifications and block diagrams into 3D designs used to build the spacecraft on the assembly floor.
We optimize layouts for system performance and other factors such as accessibility for assembly and test, optimal payload performance, and mass properties. The team documents the interfaces between major subsystems (for example, structures, antenna, and mechanisms) to ensure proper fit and alignment when the hardware integrates into the spacecraft. We are always looking for new ways to make Intuitive Machines satellites more competitive.
Engineering support for the program starts as early as the proposal phase and continues through preparations for launch. The designs produced vary in complexity from component support brackets to spacecraft top‑assembly documentation.
- Act as the Mechanical Design Engineer for the mechanical configuration department.
- Generate engineering drawings and models with Creo and other design tools.
- Design, document, and report on engineering progress on assigned projects.
- Assist in oversight for the integration of hardware into spacecraft systems architecture.
- Help disposition nonconformances and drive process improvements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, including piece‑part and subassembly modeling in Creo or other CAD software and assembly drawing generation.
- Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Familiarity with Teamcenter.
- Ability to learn quickly and multi‑task in a dynamic, fast‑paced work environment.
- Experience with mechanical design for spacecraft layouts including propulsion layout, external configurations, and internal component layouts.
- Understanding of how various propulsion and RF components work.
- Experience facilitating design reviews, presenting technical ideas, and reporting on design status.
- Ability to manage schedules for design projects.
- Enjoy working with cross‑functional teams.
Base pay for this position within California is $ - $ annually.
We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, health and welfare insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
