As part of the Aurora Safety organization, the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist provides direct strategic and tactical support of EHS programs to prevent incidents, ensure conformity with applicable policies, and maintain a strong Safety Culture. This position is based in Mountain View, California, but will be required to travel to other parts of North America, especially to Bozeman, Montana, other Pac NW locations and Texas terminal locations.

Travel time is estimated to be less than 25% of working time.

In this role, you will

Program Ownership & Regional Leadership:

* Serve as the first point of contact and onsite EHS representative for Aurora's West Coast facilities.

* Scope and implement occupational safety projects for West Coast regional sites, including stakeholder engagement, compliance, audits, investigations, and communication strategy.

* Manage inventory, SME oversight, change control, and assurance planning for all equipment and tasks designated as high-risk at West Coast facilities

* Continuously pursue improvement initiatives to increase EHS program effectiveness.

* Oversight and support of regional Site Safety Leads (SSLs), including their recruitment, training, workload balancing, assignment, and performance metrics

Compliance & Technical Oversight:

* Maintain subject-matter expertise in Federal, State (especially regulation unique to California), and local safety regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, DOT, ANSI, and EPA.

* Ensure compliance (Federal, State, and Local requirements) across key areas such as training, industrial hygiene, hazard communication, laser safety, waste management, and DOT Hazmat shipping.

* Conduct Job Safety Analyses (JSAs) and manage documentation in Cority (for EHS incidents)

* Support waste stream tracking and reporting.

* Perform site audits and oversee completion of all findings and actions.

* Conduct safety assessments of new equipment, tasks, and chemicals.

* Implement emergency planning efforts, including preparedness drills, scheduling trainings, and updating associated programs.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Safety Culture:

* Partner with other Safety Department teams in Safety Culture, Issue Management, Governance, Risk Assessment, and Operational efforts.

* Collaborate with Workplace, IT, Operations, Service Engineering, and Hardware to embed EHS practices into daily operations.

* Required interface with local on-site management to maintain necessary collaborative channels.

* Author, review, and enforce EHS policies and assist with document control; maintain formatting, visibility, and accessibility of documentation.

* Conduct investigations, as appropriate, in response to incidents within the scope of responsibility.

* Lead by example to model safety as a core value that is integrated into all aspects of Aurora's operations.

Required Qualifications

* 3+ years of dedicated EHS experience in an industrial, manufacturing, automotive, R&D, or technology environment.

* Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Engineering, or related field.

* Strong familiarity with California-specific safety regulations, OSHA, NFPA, DOT, ANSI, and safety standards, including but not limited to LOTO, Hazard communication, Fire Life Safety Code, food safety, PPE, emergency response, and other standard safety policies.
