Description:
Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Supplier Engineer with our client located in Sunnyvale, CA.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support Value Engineering and Quality Improvement Part Qualification efforts
- Lead Core Product Teams in defining Part Qualification requirements, including testing/inspection requirements prior to system integration, to maximize our client's factory efficiency
- Support transfer of parts between suppliers:
Complete Production Part Qualification Process (PPAP-style) deliverables:
Supplier pFMEA, Special Process Validations, First Article Inspection (FAI), and Process Capability Analysis - Perform product/process risk analysis and ensure mitigations are implemented and effective prior to product introduction
- Establish sustainable process capability at suppliers and critical sub-tier suppliers
- Support manufacturing line escalations from manufacturing teams
- Drive corrective actions using root cause tools (8D, 5 Why, etc.), determine true root cause, and implement effective/lasting corrective and preventive actions
- Lead manufacturing process selection — considering process quality, long-term capacity, and total lifecycle cost
- Identify where Design for Manufacturability (DFM) is appropriate to improve quality, lower costs, or improve supply chain capacity
- Educate internal customers and suppliers on supplier quality, process/operational capabilities, best-value manufacturing methods, and tooling for key supplier processes
- Drive improvements to our client's requirements by proposing/managing changes to specifications and drawings through the ECO (Engineering Change Order) process
- Manage planning and implementation of supplier change management projects via the Supplier Change Request (SCR) process post Design V&V
- Provide status on supply chain readiness (quality, capacity, delivery) for major production process changes
- Work cross-functionally to improve supplier engineering processes
- Support supplier selection by working with Product Design, Commodity Managers, and other stakeholders to identify high-capability suppliers for new products, based on business need and supplier capability
- Evaluate new suppliers through informal assessments and formal QMS audits (supporting lead auditors)
- Support audit teams in addressing findings to help suppliers develop their quality and business systems to meet our client's requirements
- Manage supplier relationships to effectively partner with our client's suppliers
- Source, select, and qualify components used in the company's technology
- Investigate alternate component technologies/suppliers to reduce cost and improve quality/reliability, and implement resulting changes
- Act as the technical interface between component/production suppliers and development engineers, identifying new and alternate sources
- Develop guidelines/procedures for vendor selection:
Evaluate supplier change notifications and qualify changes as needed - Maintain component data management system, including qualification records, results, and documentation.
Job Qualifications:
- Background in Supplier Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Component/Mechanical Engineering
- Hands-on experience with PPAP deliverables (pFMEA, FAI, Process Capability/Cpk analysis, Special Process Validation)
- Familiarity with root cause analysis tools (8D, 5 Why)
- Experience with ECO/SCR change management processes
- Experience in QMS audits and supplier development
- Likely a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering
