Director, Terminal Hardware

Logos Space is a Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite system purpose-built to serve the connectivity needs of commercial enterprise government users. We will help fill an important gap in the market, providing resilient, high-performance satellite-based connectivity services to enterprise and government customers worldwide. Business customers have contracts with agreed-upon performance standards for their broadband, and Logos will build these capabilities into the system from the beginning.

Speed, reliability, and security are the foundation of the system. Logos is designed to extend cloud and data center network connectivity anywhere in the world to fixed, seaborne, and airborne terminals. Logos is led by a team of highly experienced engineers with proven track records in the networking and satellite industries.

Position Summary & Responsibilities

The Director, Terminal Hardware at Logos Space will have technical ownership of the end-to-end design and delivery of our novel ground based terminals. This critical role involves supporting the development of the system architecture, partnership with vendors providing hardware subsystems, design and production of internally-developed subsystems, and collaboration with the software development teams (internal to Logos and external). This role will spearhead the design, development, integration, and test of our ground based terminals which include mmWave apertures, complex RF and switching subsystems, and baseband hardware subsystems.

The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in RF/microwave engineering, antenna systems (both high-gain and low-gain), baseband hardware subsystems, and modern communication techniques. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the entire project lifecycle, from requirements definition and architecture design to hardware integration and performance verification.

The development of suitable facilities required to build, integrate, test, and qualify terminal hardware also falls within the purview of the Terminal hardware team. The Director for this group is expected to build the team to its full functional cadence with the right pacing and to support the full life cycle of the product development.

We are looking for a highly skilled team leader that will be responsible for directing multiple areas of terminal systems development. Personal engagement in multiple domains is crucial for success in this role as is the instinct to look around corners and anticipate pivots. The lead should be prepared to work and thrive in a fast-moving environment where they are comfortable taking vague design ideas and turning them into tangible terminal systems ready for test and delivery.

We are seeking engineers who love to solve and manage hard problems!

The full responsibilities include:

  • Build an interdisciplinary team that spans development, integration, and at-scale manufacturing of RF hardware systems.
  • Manage terminal hardware operations including cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Terminal RF and Baseband Hardware Architecture & Design: Lead the architectural design and detailed RF and baseband hardware engineering for ground based terminals. Specific attention to the manufacturing and production scaling of hardware systems and subsystems.
  • Antenna System Integration: Define requirements and manage the integration of both High Gain Antennas (HGAs) and Low Gain Antennas (LGAs) along with the baseband subsystems on the terminal. Work closely with antenna design specialists.
  • RF Performance Analysis: Cognizant of detailed RF link budget analysis, cascade analysis (Noise Figure, Gain, Intercept Point), interference analysis, and evaluate modulation/demodulation performance.
  • Component Selection & Specification: Lead, with associated team members and with the signal and baseband signal processing teams, the selection, specification, and qualification of RF and baseband components and subsystems from vendors.
  • Integration & Test Leadership: Develop and oversee RF and baseband test facilities for the terminals as well as plans and procedures for payload/terminal integration. Lead testing activities at the unit, subsystem, and system levels. Analyze test data and resolve anomalies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface effectively with systems engineering, digital hardware, software, mechanical, thermal, and integration & test teams.
  • Facilitate Accurate and Complete Documentation: Lead the generation and maintenance of documentation of internal and external processes and technically comprehensive design documentation, specifications, test reports, and review materials.
  • Mentorship & Guidance: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to both subsystem leads and junior hardware engineers.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and direction to a team of engineers.
  • Manage technical risks and propose mitigation strategies, lead design reviews and technical deep dives.
