Job Description & How to Apply Below

Every solar and wind power plant is a latent data center. Rune connects wasted power to the compute that needs it. Solar plants generate electricity the grid can't take: clipped by inverters, curtailed by operators, gone before it ever reaches a meter. Meanwhile, AI needs more power than new construction can deliver in time.

Rune deploys hardware, software, and financial solutions to put this power to work. We build modular micro data centers that install directly at solar sites, bypassing the traditional grid entirely and turning stranded power into compute. We're backed by Spark Capital, Union Square Ventures, and Lower carbon Capital.

The Role:

Rune is seeking an FP&A Lead to build and own the company's financial planning, analysis, and decision-support function. This is a senior, high-ownership role at the center of how the business is run: this role owns the operating model, the annual budget and long-range plan, the forecasting cadence, and the financial reporting. You bring rigor to fast-moving environments, communicate numbers as narratives, and understand that great FP&A is measured by the decisions it improves as much as the accuracy it maintains.

You will partner daily with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, operations, and commercial teams to translate strategy into financial clarity, and your work will anchor Board materials, investor reporting, and future financings.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Forecasting

  • Lead monthly and quarterly forecasting across key drivers and own the annual budget and long-range plan: timelines, stakeholder inputs, consolidation, and executive outputs.
  • Partner with Compute team to maintain a bottoms-up revenue forecast, built from contracted offtake, the sales pipeline, and the deployment schedule - capacity coming online, utilization, and pricing by contract type.
  • Partner with Procurement and Operations on cash forecasting, near-term and long-range, across GPU purchases, supplier deposits, deployment capex, and financing draws.
  • Own corporate SG&A reporting and analysis; partner with the People team on headcount forecasting and with functional department heads on non-labor spend.

Reporting & Insights

  • Build and maintain the integrated three-statement model with scenarios to maintain a financial view of the near-term operating forecast.
  • Deliver business cases and ROI analyses for investments across hiring, pricing, capex, programs, and vendors; identify risks and opportunities, quantify tradeoffs, and recommend actions.
  • Partner with functional leaders across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, deployment, and commercial to improve financial rigor, accountability, and decision-making.
  • Improve FP&A processes and tooling using standard templates, automation, version control, and planning/BI systems, and automate manual work using SQL, Python, BI, and AI/LLM tools.
  • Evaluate and implement new systems as needed.

Ideal

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years in a senior FP&A, strategic finance, or finance leadership role owning a company-level model at a hardware organization, preferably a Series B+ startup.
  • Exceptional financial modeling: three-statement fluency, rolling forecasts, driver-based variance analysis, and advanced Excel.
  • Familiar with the realities of building physical, manufactured technology: R&D spend, product development costs, procurement, and inventory.
  • Nimble, hands-on fluency in Quick Books Online and lightweight ERP/MRP platforms (Odoo or similar); ERP implementation or migration experience is a plus.
  • The instincts of a builder: detail-obsessed, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to create clarity and process where none exists yet.

What We Offer: Competitive base, meaningful equity, and strategic ownership in what we believe will be one of the largest infrastructure build-outs of the decade.

Rune is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
