Job Description

This role will be based in Sunnyvale, CA.

At Linked In, our approach to flexible work is centered on trust and optimized for culture, connection, clarity, and the evolving needs of our business. The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a Linked In office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

AI and search are fundamental to virtually every Linked In experience. Our members use AI to view their feed, ads, jobs, notifications with trusted content, and search to find people, jobs, companies, groups, and other professional content. To power these solutions, our AI Infrastructure brings together information retrieval, machine learning, distributed systems, and other fundamental areas of computer science.

The mission of the AI Infrastructure team is to create highly available, reliable, and performant AI and information retrieval systems that are delightful for our ML Engineers to productively use. To do this, our distributed search platform must scale seamlessly across data and traffic, while enabling engineers to rapidly innovate, experiment and improve relevance. Any engineer within Linked In can use our platform to quickly build their own solution, searching their specific document corpus.

Our platform also ensures it will operate with performance, scalability and stability.

As Engineering Director of the information retrieval control plane (which includes hosted search) you will directly lead a team of 50+ engineers and managers, as well as embedded SREs and TPMs. You will partner with engineering, infrastructure, product, and business leaders across Linked In to drive the core technical agenda for this domain.

This individual will be a core member of Linked In's AI Infrastructure engineering leadership team. This leader will be a key contributor to the future success of the business and Linked In - as this team creates member and customer value from Linked In's economic graph.

The successful candidate will be a strong thought leader in the technology space, with the ability to build and execute at scale, and an inspirational people leader, overseeing a large team of engineers solving big problems.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

* 5+ years of software engineering management experience

* 4+ years experience in one of the following areas: data infrastructure, search infrastructure, or ML platforms

* B.A./B.S. degree or higher, or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications

* Good understanding of the nature of AI models and the complexity of serving them

* Good understanding of the AI model development and validation processes

* Hands on experience of developing large scale distributed systems

* Experience attracting, retaining, and developing top engineering and operations talent throughout the industry.

* Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Linked In is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The pay range for this role is $226,000 to $369,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
