Position
Data Scientist II – Amazon Web Services, Inc.

OverviewDesign and implement scalable and reliable data‑science solutions to support or automate decision making across Amazon. Apply a range of techniques—from statistical and econometric modeling to machine learning, NLP, and neural networks—to solve complex business problems where the solution approach is unclear. Acquire data via SQL/ETL, integrate with Oracle, Red Shift, and Spark, and build models that meet stringent accuracy, reliability, and computational requirements throughout the production pipeline.
Responsibilities• Acquire and transform data using SQL and ETL queries; import data through custom interfaces to Oracle, Red Shift, and Spark.
• Build and validate models across a portfolio of techniques including statistical, mathematical, econometric, network, social‑network, NLP, machine learning, genetic algorithms, and neural networks.
• Evaluate models against business‑defined KPIs and alternative approaches; ensure compliance with computational demands and production reliability.
• Analyze data for trends, anomaly detection, and data quality, applying appropriate transformations.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to define model requirements and communicate results effectively.
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, plus one year of relevant experience; alternatively, a bachelor’s degree with five years of progressive post‑baccalaureate experience may be accepted.
- At least one year of experience in: building statistical and machine‑learning models with large, multi‑source datasets; writing SQL scripts for analysis and data migration; and applying specialized modeling software with R, Python, or MATLAB.
- Proven ability to design end‑to‑end data‑science solutions that are accurate, reliable, and scalable.
- Experience with AWS services (e.g., Red Shift, Athena, EMR) is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Prior exposure to fairness, equity, or audit‑tracking in model development.

Compensation & BenefitsPay range for Mountain View, CA: $157,300 – $212,800 per year. Base pay may vary based on knowledge, skills, and experience. Sign‑on bonus, restricted stock units, and a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits may be provided.
