Overview
DGN Technologies is seeking a Technical Writer to support the development, delivery, and maintenance of technical Field Service documentation in alignment with product support needs and company guidelines. The Technical Writer produces accurate, clearly presented, consistent documentation on time for product releases and requires minimal day-to-day instruction for new assignments. A hardware background and experience with DITA XML authoring tools are required.

Primary Function of PositionAs a member of the Services organization, the Technical Writer ensures that development, delivery, and maintenance of technical Field Service documentation are consistent and compliant with product support needs and company guidelines. The Technical Writer produces accurate, clearly presented, consistent documentation on time for product releases, and requires no day-to-day instruction or general instruction for new assignments. The Technical Writer should be highly skilled in the development and maintenance of technical hardware documentation.
EssentialJob Duties
- This is an on-campus position with a minimum of 3 days a week with both office and laboratory working environments.
- Plans, writes, edits, and maintains Field Service documentation (i.e., Field Service procedures and technical bulletins) for medical device systems.
- Complete documentation control steps to release final documentation, including tracking work in JIRA and maintaining Change Order records in the documentation control system.
- Informs and adheres to policies, procedures, and quality documents. Collaborates with project team members to share knowledge and best practices.
- Uses skills as an experienced technical communication professional with understanding of industry best practices and company goals to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways.
- Evaluates, recommends, or develops documentation processes and productivity aids. Assists with development of internal writing style guide.
- Minimum 5 years' experience.
- Recent experience writing minimalist hardware topics using DITA XML authoring tools (such as Oxygen XML Editor or similar).
- Recent technical writing experience for moderate-to-complex hardware products, including documentation for various technical audiences.
- Submitted writing samples should demonstrate these skills.
- Exceptional writing and grammar skills in areas of content development. Analytical ability to swiftly grasp and effectively communicate complex scientific and engineering concepts for intended audiences.
- Solid organizational and project-management skills with ability to participate in project discussions and manage deliverables for multiple projects under tight deadlines, set priorities, and manage time effectively.
- Understanding of mechanical/hardware concepts and complex devices.
- Previous experience with medical devices preferred.
- Experience with current versions of additional, non-DITA authoring or graphic design tools, including Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop.
- Professional hardware-focused writing examples expected (e.g., installation, repair, and/or maintenance procedures).
Bachelor’s Degree required
