Harvey Nash USA has been engaged to find a talented AI Linguist for one of our enterprise clients. This is an exciting opportunity for a linguistics or NLP professional who is passionate about Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and improving AI quality through annotation, evaluation, and human judgment workflows. You'll work alongside AI Engineers and Researchers to help shape next-generation AI products used by millions of professionals worldwide.
Job Title: AI Linguist
Location: Mountain View, CA (Hybrid – 3+ days onsite, Tuesday–Thursday)
Duration: 12-month contract with possible extension
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Design and execute AI quality, evaluation, and annotation solutions that improve Large Language Model (LLM) performance.
- Develop scalable human judgment and annotation workflows using Generative AI prompting, human evaluation, and hybrid approaches.
- Analyze linguistic data to identify trends, improve annotation quality, and provide actionable insights to AI development teams.
- Partner with AI Engineers, Researchers, and Linguists to build and enhance annotation and evaluation pipelines supporting AI model training.
- Create clear documentation, annotation guidelines, and standard operating procedures for internal processes.
- Conduct research into new methodologies that improve AI quality, evaluation strategies, and workflow efficiency.
- Drive process improvements through workflow optimization, documentation standardization, and automation opportunities.
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team focused on advancing AI quality across personalized content, recommendations, and other machine learning products.
Must-Have Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computational Linguistics, Linguistics, Language Technologies, Speech Science, or a related field.
- 1+ years of industry experience in AI, NLP, Computational Linguistics, Language Technologies, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with large-scale human judgment, annotation, or evaluation workflows supporting AI or machine learning models.
- Ability to translate complex linguistic requirements into clear annotation guidelines, workflows, and documentation.
- Experience programming in Python or another scripting language.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Excellent written English and attention to linguistic detail.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Master's or Ph.D. in Computational Linguistics, Linguistics, Language Technologies, NLP, Speech Science, or a related field.
- Experience with Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or AI evaluation.
- Experience designing annotation guidelines, quality frameworks, or scalable evaluation pipelines.
- Familiarity with AI data annotation platforms and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Experience with machine learning, NLP, or language modeling projects.
- Passion for emerging AI technologies and willingness to learn new technical concepts and tools.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required in Computational Linguistics, Linguistics, Language Technologies, Speech Science, or a related field.
- Master's or Ph.D. preferred.
A reasonable, good faith estimate of the hourly wage for this position is $40/hr w2 - 45.48/hour on W2 (depending on experience).
