Program Manager

A problem isn't truly solved until it's solved for all. That's why Googlers build products that help create opportunities for everyone, whether down the street or across the globe. As a Program Manager at Google, you'll lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish - working with stakeholders to plan requirements, manage project schedules, identify risks, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company.

Your projects will often span offices, time zones, and hemispheres. It's your job to coordinate the players and keep them up to date on progress and deadlines. In this role, you will both write and steer our public assets, transforming complex technical breakthroughs, scientific discoveries, AI milestones, and impact stories into compelling, accessible, and globally relevant narratives. You will create broad organizational impact by setting the editorial bar, building narrative frameworks, and mentoring other writers for overall narrative consistency across teams and channels.

You will be equally comfortable defining long-term editorial strategy, ghostwriting high-stakes thought leadership (e.g., keynotes, op-eds etc.) for executives, reviewing and editing your colleagues' work. You will be an expert and a master storyteller who can hear about a deeply complex scientific breakthrough and instantly shape a narrative arc that reveals its human, societal, or technical significance, collaborating with research experts across the organization.

Google Research addresses challenges that define the technology of today and tomorrow. From conducting fundamental research to influencing product development, our research teams have the opportunity to impact technology used by billions of people every day. Our teams aspire to make discoveries that impact everyone, and core to our approach is sharing our research and tools to fuel progress in the field -- we publish regularly in academic journals, release projects as open source, and apply research to Google products.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. US: $188000 - $274000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits Learn more about benefits at Google.

Responsibilities

  • Establish, evolve, and execute the editorial voice and content frameworks for Google Research across primary external and internal channels.
  • Oversee the end-to-end editorial calendar, including the implementation of listening systems to identify and inform the editorial pipeline in advance of formal project submissions. Prioritize, curate, and greenlight stories that maximize impact across both technical expert communities and mainstream public audiences.
  • Partner closely with Researchers, Product Managers, and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Comms, Legal, GAPP, Partnerships) to ensure scientific accuracy, regulatory compliance, and message alignment.
  • Provide structural and line editing for content drafts written by others, managing Q&A for all write-ups, while actively coaching others to elevate their storytelling.
  • Manage the tactical execution pipeline for your assigned pieces-proactively driving research teams and executives to provide timely inputs, clear feedback, and final sign-offs to meet publication deadlines.
