Position: Assistant General Counsel - Employment Counsel

Our client, a rapidly growing and innovative global technology company, is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Employment Counsel to join its dynamic Employment Legal team. In this senior role, you’ll partner closely with business leaders worldwide to shape and execute workforce strategies that balance compliance, smart risk‑taking, and an exceptional employee experience. This position offers the opportunity to advise on complex global employment matters, including litigation, pay equity, wage and hour compliance, and international workforce strategy, while driving data‑informed, tech‑enabled solutions that support a modern, evolving organization.

Based in the Bay Area or San Diego with a hybrid schedule, this is a high‑impact and high‑visibility role for a seasoned employment attorney who thrives in a collaborative, progressive environment and enjoys influencing strategy at the highest levels.

Responsibilities
  • Drive and advise on the end‑to‑end implementation of workforce compliance issues from issue identification and strategy, ideation, worker experience, policy development, compliance, and operations to support our client's global workforce
  • Provide timely, business‑focused advice and counseling in support of our workforce strategies, policies, legal claim management in accordance with evolving global laws and regulations
  • Analyze current international support models, develop, and implement strategy to ensure best in class worker support across our client's locations
  • Rapidly build trusted and inclusive partnerships with partners in HR centers of excellence and provide clear, data‑driven insights to address concerns and reach best outcomes
  • Develop and execute priorities and initiatives for the broader legal, compliance, and policy organization, including new challenges presented by the external environment
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience primarily advising technology companies on complex global workforce issues, including in‑house experience
  • Deep employment litigation experience, including international matters
  • Significant experience navigating a wide range of complex employment law issues at a global scale
  • Use inquiry to truly understand needs and advise our HR partners on a range of worker‑related issues, from pay equity to complex exits to wage and hour compliance and beyond
  • Demonstrated ability to drive strategic outcomes with minimal supervision
  • Experience providing legal support on a global scale
  • Ability to effectively communicate with business partners about legal obligations and risk management practically and business‑backed
  • Ability to learn new technology and tools and implement automated solutions
  • Ability to produce clear and succinct written legal analysis and business communications, and counsel and manage clients, including executive leadership
  • Ability to interact with and lead change with senior executive leaders
  • Ability to effectively frame issues to drive strategic thinking and execution
  • Comfortable and adept at balancing risk and opportunity, and thinking creatively to enable the business to make smart decisions
  • JD and membership in good standing with at least one US State Bar (preferably CA)
  • Strong personal ethical code and integrity and deep respect for privacy and confidentiality
  • Alignment with our client's Legal, Compliance, and Policy Organization ethos, which requires a strong commitment and accountability to the company and each other

Expected salary for this role is $242,000 - $327,500, commensurate with experience, training, skills, qualifications, and other market factors.
