- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 14 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or communications.
- Experience using exclusives, long‑form storytelling (podcasts, authored content), and direct demo days to shape nuanced narratives.
- Ability to be an excellent operator who can drive a highly effective team and prioritize towards highest impact work.
- Ability to master subject matter in genomics, neuroscience, or climate science and translate it for various audiences.
- Ability to be skilled at leveraging third‑party validators to build external credibility.
The Global Communications and Public Affairs team communicates with priority audiences, from creators to developers to media, and other influential voices about Google's mission, its AI‑powered products and approaches.
In this role, you'll work cross‑functionally with teams across the world to devise proactive communications campaigns to advance Google's business. We're looking for a great communicator and networker who can lead a strong team and distill topics with priority audiences simply and engagingly. To succeed, you'll need to combine creativity with organizational skills and manage numerous projects to tight deadlines simultaneously, as well as enjoy pitching to journalists, bloggers and commentators.
You’ll need to be an enthusiastic team player, take initiative, and work cross‑functionally, and someone who isn't afraid to take risks or try new things. The Head of Research and Science Public Relations (PR) leads the global communications strategy for Google Research, focusing on positioning Google as a leader in advancing technologies that improve lives and benefit society. You will lead a "Research to Reality" narrative, demonstrating how Google’s scientific depth from expert researchers to exceptional infrastructure—solve pressing global problems.
You'll maintain excellent relationships with journalists and influencers; support your team’s development of written materials and plans; and drive strategies that go direct to key audiences. A major part of the role is collaborating with executives across the organization and bringing a deep understanding of the strategy required to adapt to a shifting media / information landscape. We help inform and educate users, advertisers, partners, opinion leaders and our own employees—about the benefits of Google's products, our distinctive company culture/values and our approach to the big public policy issues of the day.
You are quick‑witted, entrepreneurial and intellectually curious. To succeed in this role, you are willing to try new things and can manage numerous projects with tight deadlines. Things happen quickly at Google, and to do great work, you need to be an enthusiastic team player who can work cross‑functionally with partners across PR, Communications, Marketing, Product, and beyond.
The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $211,000-$297,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
