Requirements

The Fire and Life Safety Systems Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection, and certification of fire and life safety systems across the facility. This includes but is not limited to fire alarm systems, associated electrical components, access control, and gas detection systems. Technicians must be certified and trained to perform work in accordance with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) standards and all applicable codes and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Fire and Life Safety alarm systems and associated electrical devices.
  • Perform regular inspections and testing of life safety systems to ensure operational readiness and code compliance.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of work performed, including service reports and certification records.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with NFPA standards, local fire codes, and OEM specifications.
  • Provide documentation of OEM certifications for hardware currently installed, as specified in Attachments J2.07.522, J2.07.523, and J2.07.524.
  • Support ongoing facility operations by identifying system issues and implementing proactive maintenance solutions.
  • Participate in additional training programs as required to support evolving system technologies, including access control, fire alarm, and gas detection systems.
  • Collaborate with other technicians, facility staff, and contractors to coordinate safe and efficient operations.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED; technical school training or associate degree in electronics, fire alarm systems, or a related field preferred.
  • Current certifications demonstrating training and qualification to work on Fire and Life Safety systems.
  • OEM training certifications specific to facility hardware listed in Attachments J2.07.522, J2.07.523, and J2.07.524.
  • Additional certifications in access control security, fire alarm, and gas detection systems preferred or required as systems are updated.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes, electrical codes, and life safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel across facility grounds or sites as required.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in confined spaces, on ladders, or at heights as needed.
  • Stand, kneel, bend, or climb for extended periods.
  • Must be available for emergency on‑call support and occasional after‑hours work.
Additional Information

This position requires compliance with all facility safety standards and participation in regular training programs to stay current with system upgrades and technological advancements. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining up-to-date certifications.
