As a Sr. Staff Software Engineer you will be part of the executive leadership team on the Data Platform org. You will leverage bleeding‑edge AI developer tools and techniques to help build the Data Intelligence Platform that will allow us to automate decision‑making across Databricks. You will achieve this in collaboration with prominent Tech Leads, Databricks Product Teams, Data Science, and many more.
You will define the future of a variety of tools spanning logging, orchestration, data transformation, metric store, governance platforms, and data consumption layers, just to name a few.
- Design and run the cross‑company Data Intelligence Platform, which contains every business and product metric used to run Databricks. You’ll play a key role in developing the right balance of data protection and ease of shareability for the Data Intelligence Platform as we transition to a public company.
- Develop tooling and infrastructure to efficiently manage and run Databricks on Databricks at scale, across multiple clouds, geographies, and deployment types. This includes CI/CD processes, test frameworks for pipelines and data quality, and infrastructure‑as‑code tooling.
- Partner with other prominent tech leaders to develop and influence technical direction and capabilities of our Databricks product.
- Be customer 0 and a trusted advisor to product leadership.
- Represent Databricks at academic and industrial conferences & events.
- AI first mindset – Your personal productivity is augmented with AI to drive high‑impact, technically complex initiatives and code that delivers clear value.
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related majors, or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years of industry experience building and operating large‑scale distributed systems.
- 6+ years of experience providing technical leadership on planet‑scale production data systems.
- Experience leading architecture efforts for performance‑sensitive systems (e.g., latency‑critical services, multi‑tenant platforms, large‑scale indexing pipelines).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to operate effectively in fast‑paced, cross‑functional environments.
- A strategic mindset with the ability to align engineering execution with longer‑term product and company goals.
- Passion for mentoring and developing other engineers.

The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents the expected salary range for non‑commissionable roles or on‑target earnings for commissionable roles. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job‑related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location.
Based on the factors above, Databricks anticipates utilizing the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above. $228,400 — $303,550 USD
