Senior Software Engineer - Managed Tables

Job Summary

The Managed Tables team is responsible for Data Intelligence initiatives that underpin the Unity Catalog Managed Tables offering, including products such as Predictive Optimization, Liquid Clustering, and control‑plane services facilitating Unity Catalog and Iceberg Rest Catalog API-based access to Managed Tables.

The team is accountable for optimizing exabytes of data and saving millions of dollars annually for customers through these offerings.

• Storage lifecycle and additional background optimizations for a knob‑free experience via Predictive Optimization.
• Efficient storage structures and innovations to power storage layout solutions for the ML world.
• Influence data format and catalog interface unification efforts to enable strong ecosystem interoperability for Managed Tables.

• Solve real business needs at large scale by applying software engineering experience and collaborating with product partners.
• Deliver a highly scalable, available, and interoperable architecture for Managed Tables.
• Debug low‑level systems, perform performance measurement, and optimize large production clusters.
• Design architecture, influence product roadmap, and take ownership of new projects.
• Introduce tools that enable greater automation and operability of services.
• Prevent and investigate production issues using deep experience.
• Plan and lead complex technical projects across multiple teams.
• Mentor and up‑level engineers on the team.

• 15+ years of industry experience building and supporting large‑scale distributed systems.
• Passion for database systems, storage systems, distributed systems, language design, or performance optimization.
• Experience driving multi‑year visions with incremental deliverables.
• Motivation to deliver customer value and impact.
• Strong foundation in algorithms and data structures and their real‑world applications.
• Experience driving company initiatives toward customer satisfaction.
• BS/​MS/​PhD in Computer Science or related major, or equivalent experience.

Pay Range: $228,600 – $314,250 USD. Compensation may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and benefits. Final package depends on location, experience, and other factors.
