Overview
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position provides front-line customer service support for the Recreation and Parks Department at the Recreation Pavilion. Responsibilities include responding to customer inquiries by telephone, email, and in person; registering participants for classes and programs; collecting admission fees and handling cash; and performing general administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and maintaining program information. The position also schedules facilities for private and public use and provides food and beverage service at the espresso cart.
Evening and/or weekend availability is required.
- Greet customers using effective/professional customer service skills.
- Answer telephones; assist customers with requests; and direct calls and messages to appropriate personnel.
- Collect admissions, registration, and program fees using registration and point of sale software.
- Maintain customer service areas, including the lobby, ensuring they are clean and stocked with program information and materials.
- Reserve facilities for programs and activities which involve setting up and cleaning up after events.
- Utilize computers and other office equipment to produce promotional posters, announcements, and flyers.
- Distribute mail and other correspondence to personnel.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions.
- Provide espresso service, track food and beverage inventory, refill vending machines, order products, and clean and stock espresso cart.
- Maintain inventory of items for sale.
- Assist with indoor playground programs by cleaning, sanitizing, organizing, and setting up playground area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements
- High school graduate or GED preferred.
- Office and customer service experience preferred.
- Ability to obtain a Food Handler’s Permit within the first two weeks of employment.
- Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid certification within six months of employment.
- Successful completion of a background check.
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
- Possession of a valid Washington State driver’s license, or ability to obtain one at the time of appointment, with a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of standard office equipment, including computers, software applications, copiers, and multi-line telephone systems.
- Skill in providing professional, courteous, and effective customer service to a diverse population, including youth, adults, seniors, and individuals with varying abilities.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, in person, by telephone, and in a busy, noisy recreation environment.
- Ability to use Microsoft Windows-based software, including word processing, email, internet, and spreadsheet applications, to produce routine correspondence and reports.
- Ability to accurately perform cash handling and point-of-sale transactions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, shift priorities, and work effectively with frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, tact, and poise in stressful or challenging situations, including interactions with dissatisfied customers.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations of the Recreation and Parks Department and the City.
