POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position plans, coordinates, administers, and evaluates year‑round youth recreation and licensed childcare programs, including preschool, before‑and‑after‑school care, camps, and teen programs. The position supervises assigned staff and volunteers, ensures compliance with applicable licensing and safety requirements, and supports the delivery of safe, engaging, and high‑quality recreation services to the community.

This position is non‑represented and FLSA exempt. Work schedules may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events based on program and operational needs.

  • Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate youth recreation and childcare programs, activities, and events.
  • Supervise assigned staff and volunteers at various locations, including recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluation, coaching, and corrective action as appropriate.
  • Ensure programs operate in compliance with applicable state licensing regulations, county health requirements, safety standards, and City policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the designated childcare director as required by Washington State licensing regulations.
  • Develop program schedules, staffing plans, and operational procedures to support efficient program delivery.
  • Monitor program participation, revenues, expenditures, and cost recovery goals; assist in preparing and administering assigned program budgets.
  • Purchase program supplies and equipment and maintain related inventory and records.
  • Develop and distribute program marketing and communication materials through print and digital platforms, including brochures, flyers, email communications, registration systems, and website updates.
  • Assist in implementing risk management procedures and maintaining safe environments for participants, staff, and volunteers.
  • Respond to participant, parent, and community inquiries, concerns, and service requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Coordinate with schools, community organizations, contractors, and other agencies to support program operations and partnerships.
  • Prepare reports, maintain records, and complete required documentation related to program operations and licensing compliance.
  • Organize and lead staff meetings, coordinate training programs, and department initiatives.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 45 college credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, or possession of a current Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate, as required by state licensing regulations.
  • Five (5) years of experience working with children and youth in a licensed childcare, recreation, educational, or similar group setting.
  • Three (3) years of experience supervisory or lead experience.
