About the Role:
Location: 21705 58th Avenue West, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043
Brighton School is seeking a dedicated and engaging Long-Term Music Substitute Teacher to support our students from December through May. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for music education, strong classroom presence, and the ability to create a positive, structured, and inspiring learning environment for students across grade levels.
This long-term substitute role will help ensure continuity of instruction within Brighton’s music program while supporting students’ musical development, creativity, confidence, and appreciation for the performing arts. The contract hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The long-term substitute assignment is expected to run from December through May, with a preferred start date in October or November to allow for transition, onboarding, and collaboration with the campus team.
Additional optional opportunities may be available outside of contract hours, including leading choir, supporting string instruments, and teaching middle school electives.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate music instruction aligned with the school’s curriculum and program expectations
Support students in building foundational music skills, including rhythm, melody, vocal development, music appreciation, performance readiness, and creative expression
Maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and confidence
Prepare and implement lesson plans that support continuity of instruction throughout the long-term assignment
Collaborate with school leadership, faculty, and staff to support student learning and uphold Brighton School’s expectations and policies
Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students across different grade levels and learning styles
Support classroom management, student engagement, and a safe, respectful learning environment
Communicate professionally with students, families, and colleagues as appropriate
Assist with music-related school activities, performances, or special events as needed
Optional opportunities may include leading choir, supporting string instruction, and facilitating middle school electives outside of regular contract hours
What We’re Looking For:
A Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Education, or a related field is preferred
Previous teaching, substitute teaching, or music instruction experience is preferred
Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students is strongly preferred
Ability to teach general music and support student growth in vocal, instrumental, and performance-based learning
