Dance Instructor
This position is responsible for teaching one or more dance classes offered at the Pavilion, based on the selected candidate's area of expertise. Dance styles include Creative Dance, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Contemporary. Additional dance styles may be offered based on the instructor's specialized skills and experience. Classes serve students ranging in age from 3.5 - 19 years.

- Plan and deliver age-appropriate dance instruction, including stretching, improvisation, technique, strength exercises, and dance combinations, in accordance with the approved curriculum
- Develop class choreography and select appropriate music to support instructional objectives and performance readiness
- Assess participants' skills and developmental levels and modify instruction as needed to ensure a safe, engaging, and inclusive learning environment
- Evaluate student progress and complete written evaluations as required
- Motivate and encourage participants with positive and engaging communication skills
- Prepare participants for seasonal performances by choreographing routines, selecting themes and music as directed, and supporting rehearsal
- Provide leadership at performances with the Dance and Fitness programs team members
- Uphold policies, protocols and expectations as outlined in Cities Employee Handbook, and Dance & Fitness Policies.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service to Pavilion patrons
- Support site operations by assisting the Dance & Fitness Programmer with program logistics, reporting, and required documentation
- Maintaining current First Aid and CPR certifications
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and follow established safety and rescue procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum
Job Requirements:
Education, Training and Experience Guidelines:
Age 18 or older
College degree or coursework in Dance, Education, Recreation or equivalent background preferred
A minimum one (1) year experience teaching dance
Possession of current CPR and First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within six (6) months of hire
Pass Criminal Background Check
Must provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act
Knowledge of:
The Elements of Dance – Space, Time, Energy and Body
Anatomy and healthy alignment practices
Creative Dance Curriculum
Skill in:
Leadership and supervisory methods for a pre-school, dance classroom
Preparing and implementing curriculum, music, and choreography appropriate to each level and age group
Demonstration and teaching dance technique specific to each class
Creative implementation of assigned curriculum
Motivation of participants and a positive learning environment
Constructive feedback, including individual evaluations of student's skills and growth at the end of the season
Effective communication with parents and students about dress code, attendance policy, volunteer opportunities, department activities and productions requirements
