Director of Mortgage Operations
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Mortgage Operations to lead and oversee all aspects of mortgage operations, ensuring seamless execution throughout the loan lifecycle—from application through closing. This leadership role serves as a key partner to Home Lending leadership, branch managers, and loan originators, aligning operational performance with production goals, service standards, compliance requirements, and borrower experience expectations.
The ideal candidate will bring extensive mortgage banking expertise, a strong operational mindset, and a proven ability to build high-performing teams while driving efficiency, scalability, and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Operational Management- Provide strategic leadership across all Home Lending Operations functions, ensuring alignment with production objectives, compliance standards, and service expectations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop on-site and remote operational teams, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Manage operational capacity, workload distribution, and staffing forecasts to consistently meet service level commitments.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex loan scenarios and operational issues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with loan originators, branch managers, and production leadership.
- Partner with sales teams to improve pull-through rates, reduce cycle times, and enhance the overall loan officer and borrower experience.
- Act as a liaison between production and operations to ensure alignment on pipeline management, expectations, and service delivery.
- Identify workflow inefficiencies and implement solutions that improve transparency, speed, and ease of doing business.
- Oversee Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) functions while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and investor requirements.
- Maintain a strong understanding of mortgage regulations and industry best practices.
- Ensure loans are originated, processed, and closed in compliance with all applicable regulations while maintaining operational efficiency.
- Analyze operational and production performance metrics to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
- Develop and enhance reporting related to operational performance, staffing, pipeline management, commissions, and regulatory requirements.
- Lead process improvement initiatives focused on operational efficiency, internal controls, automation, and scalability.
- Champion system enhancements and Loan Origination System (LOS) optimization initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with Secondary Marketing, Compliance, Capital Markets, Technology, and Servicing teams to ensure efficient loan lifecycle execution.
- Provide operational insights and recommendations to executive leadership to support strategic planning and business growth.
- Represent Mortgage Operations in leadership meetings and enterprise-wide initiatives.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 10 years of mortgage banking experience, including significant leadership experience within mortgage operations.
- Demonstrated experience partnering directly with loan officers, branch managers, and production leadership.
- Strong knowledge of Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loan programs.
- Deep understanding of mortgage operations, documentation, underwriting workflows, closing, funding, QA/QC, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven ability to manage high-performing teams in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and mortgage lending systems/LOS platforms.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
- Experience leading operational transformation, automation, and process improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of operational metrics, pipeline management, and production performance drivers.
Salary Range: $200,000 - $275,000 annually

This position requires regular travel to branch locations and business meetings. Candidates must possess reliable transportation and be willing to travel as needed.
