Art Director

We're looking for an experienced Art Director to lead the visual direction of a food and lifestyle print magazine and oversee its execution from cover to final print. This is an urgent, high-impact project and will require someone who can think conceptually, design decisively, and manage the design process end-to-end.

Candidate will be responsible for:

Conceptualising and designing the magazine cover and defining the overall visual language of the issue.

Setting the art direction for the entire magazine, including features, sections, and visual narratives.

Working closely with the editor to translate editorial vision into strong, cohesive design.

Supervising and guiding the Senior Graphic Designer, reviewing layouts, giving clear feedback, and ensuring consistency across all pages.

Final sign-off on layouts, typography, imagery, and overall aesthetic quality.

Ensuring all pages meet print production standards and are press-ready within tight deadlines.

Ideal Candidate

Qualifications:

8–12+ years of experience in editorial design and art direction, preferably for print magazines or high-quality publications.

A strong portfolio demonstrating cover design, magazine layouts, and clear visual storytelling.

Advanced expertise in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Exceptional understanding of typography, grids, colour, pacing, and hierarchy in long-form print design.

Experience managing and mentoring designers; ability to lead without micromanaging.

Strong sense of brand, with the ability to create a distinctive look while respecting editorial tone.

Solid knowledge of pre-press, colour management, paper stock considerations, and print workflows.

Calm under pressure, highly organised, and capable of making quick, confident creative decisions.
