Sr. Accountant

Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join our team on a Contract basis in Muncie, Indiana. This position plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting reporting cycles, and ensuring accounting activity aligns with established controls and compliance standards. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in manufacturing accounting, a sharp eye for detail, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Oversee general ledger activity and maintain accurate financial records by reviewing transactions and confirming proper accounting treatment.

- Prepare and record journal entries while supporting timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities.

- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and sub-ledgers, including payables, receivables, payroll, inventory, and banking activity.

- Produce periodic financial statements and management reports that support business planning and operational decision-making.

- Investigate variances and transaction discrepancies, then resolve issues to preserve the accuracy and integrity of financial data.

- Strengthen compliance by applying internal controls, following accounting standards, and maintaining organized supporting documentation.

- Partner with internal and external auditors by supplying schedules, explanations, and requested records during audit engagements.

- Complete required tax-related and government reporting in accordance with applicable regulations and filing deadlines.

- Contribute to accounting process improvements, policy updates, and system-related enhancements that increase efficiency and reporting accuracy.

- Provide analytical support and day-to-day guidance to accounting colleagues and management on financial matters as needed. Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

- At least 5 years of accounting experience, ideally within automotive manufacturing or another high-volume production setting.

- Solid understanding of GAAP, internal control practices, and financial reporting principles.

- Hands-on experience with ERP.

- Advanced Excel capabilities, including complex formulas, pivot tables, and financial reporting tools.

- Proven experience with journal entries, general ledger management, account reconciliations, and month-end close.

- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.

- Familiarity with government reporting requirements, tax filings, and manufacturing cost accounting is preferred.
