Substitute Special Education Aide

Education:

Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Must provide at least two professional reference contacts. Must be able to pass a National Criminal History background check at candidate's expense with NO FELONIES . Must attend an unpaid training session if recommended for hire as a sub.

Responsibilities

* Work under the director of the classroom teacher to assist learners with tasks assigned by the teacher; assist learners in small group and individual learning situations; and monitor class while teacher works with groups or individuals.

* Follow directions from the classroom teacher.

* Assist the classroom teacher with making instructional materials.

* Assist the teacher with instructional and other clerical duties.

* Administer to the physical needs of the learners. This may include help with toileting and/or diaper changing.

* Support teachers in providing positive learning opportunities for adults.

* Perform student health and safety related tasks necessary for a particular student or students including, but not limited to, health care services related to students with diabetes, basic life support, therapeutic, and sanitary service, and taking other actions reasonably necessary to prevent harm or injury to a student as determined by the student's Individual Health Plan (IHP), Individual Education Plan (IEP), or 504 Plan.

* Perform other duties assigned by the teacher, Principal, and/or Director of Special Education.

Work on an as needed basis when current staff are absent. May lead into a permanent position based upon need and job performance.
