QUALIFICATIONSRequired:
High School Diploma or GED with para-pro certification.
Preferred:
Associate Degree
Ability to communicate electronically using Word, Excel, Publisher, Google docs, Outlook.

SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the principal or classroom teacher, the instructional aide delivers daily instruction to students. Instruction can include remedial instruction in reading or math, and/or instruction in computer skills. Working with YYOC students, ISS students and other needed placements throughout the school year. This position would be located at Yorktown Middle School.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties may be assigned
Instructional Skills under supervision of the building principal or classroom teacher- a. Systematically plans instruction.
- b. Develops clear requirements and expectations and communicates these to students.
- c. Utilizes the approved curriculum.
- d. Has teaching materials readily available for each session.
- e. Includes activities which enable students to develop written and oral communications skills.
- f. Explains content effectively; puts ideas across logically and in an orderly way.
- g. Uses appropriate and well-defined techniques to measure student progress.
- h. Keeps a current and accurate record of student progress and attendance.
- i. Makes efficient and productive use of instructional time.
- j. Maintains complete, accurate, and legible records.
- k. Provides plans and other necessary information for substitutes.
- l. Maintains appropriate confidentiality.
- m. Fulfills assigned supervisory duties.
- a. Provides reinforcement for positive behavior.
- b. Deals effectively and consistently with inappropriate behavior.
- c. Adheres to school discipline policies.
- d. Is consistent and fair in dealing with students.
- e. Promotes a warm, open, and accepting climate.
- a. Communicates with supervisors regarding student achievement, behavior, and attendance.
- b. Takes timely and appropriate action with to regard to supervisors requests and concerns.
- c. Uses tact and courtesy in relationships with staff/and or administrators.
Supervises students as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills- a. The ability to work independently using Microsoft Word, Excel (including mail merge, formulas, and spreadsheets), Publisher, etc. to prepare, create, edit, design memos, reports, letters, and newsletters.
- b. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills in order to relate to students, parents, staff, administrators, and community. The ability to negotiate effective working relationships, and develop position resolutions to conflict.
- c. Strong organizational skills in order to manage multiple issues simultaneously combined with ability to effectively prioritize.
- d. The ability to work independently and within a team while maintaining cooperative working relationships.
- e. The ability to communicate electronically. Possess highly developed technology skills.

LANGUAGE SKILLSThe ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before parents, staff, and students.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSThe ability add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. The ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITYThe ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral functions. The ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHERSKILLS AND ABILITIES
The ability to operate a personal computer and related software. The ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally, and in writing. The ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and YCS School Board policies.
