About this OpportunityThe Department of Educational Studies at Ball State University welcomes applications for a full-time teaching position in Adult and Community Education. The position is an annual, renewable ten‑month appointment with the possibility of supplemental summer opportunities and requires an on‑campus presence. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral level courses in the Masters of Adult and Community Education, Master’s in Executive Development for Public Service, undergraduate Educational Studies minor, and Doctorate in Interdisciplinary Education programs.
Responsibilities include advising students in the master’s program, serving on doctoral dissertation‑in‑practice committees, and contributing to ongoing course and curriculum development as part of the faculty team in Adult and Community Education, the Department of Educational Studies, and Teachers College. This position includes eligibility for university benefits and requires current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
and Responsibilities
- Teaching: Teach graduate‑level courses related to adult and community education; recruit and advise students in master’s programs; serve on doctoral committees.
- Service: Participate in and contribute to academic or professional organizations related to adult and community education; provide service to the Department of Educational Studies, Teachers College, and Ball State University.
- Research: Maintain current research in adult and community education, learning theory, and community engagement; engage in scholarly activity at conferences and in print, including presentation and publication of original research.
- Earned doctorate in adult education, community education, or a closely related field (by date of appointment).
- Relevant and successful teaching experience or potential to teach adult education courses designed to serve multiple graduate programs.
- Qualifications aligning with graduate faculty status within the department and university.
- Ability to teach and conduct academic duties in face‑to‑face and online environments.
- Knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations.
- Evidence of openness and expertise in leadership and collaborative engagement with peers and colleagues.
- A commitment to strengthening and supporting ongoing growth of the programs.
- Experience teaching using online and distance‑learning delivery methods.
- Experience advising graduate students, chairing, or serving on doctoral committees.
- Experience working with community organizations, community education, or governmental organizations.
- Experience with community engagement or service‑learning activities.
- Evidence of scholarly activities (publications, research, grants) related to adult and community education.
