About this opportunityThe Student Success Coach position allows individuals to positively impact the lives of students through one‑on‑one meetings, providing tailored strategies for success.

Position FunctionThis position coaches, mentors, and guides high‑priority, high‑need students, including those academically at‑risk, using a caseload support model. The Coach provides comprehensive academic coaching and student success strategies to help students maintain progress and timely degree completion, ensures appropriate academic records, executes departmental policies, and exercises judgment and discretion.
Duties and Responsibilities- Manage and maintain regular contact with student caseloads to nurture them and assist in their academic journey.
- Support students and provide services in person and remotely as needed.
- Monitor student academic progress, communicating with each student regularly on a personalized basis; intervene as necessary to assist those with difficulty.
- Serve as a coach and mentor to aid students in developing the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs they need to succeed in college and their careers.
- Collaborate with students’ assigned academic advisor(s) to help students understand and develop a degree and timely graduation plan.
- Use student success technology to manage caseload, facilitate outreach, conduct campaigns, and document services and individualized success plans.
- Maintain accurate records of advising, mentoring, tutoring, contacts, progress toward degree, and other learning activities.
- Liaise with Disability Services and other support areas to provide learning assistants to high‑priority, high‑need students.
- Participate in regular training and professional development to maintain and increase skill sets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree from an accredited institution by date of employment.
- One year of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, academic coaching, or related field.
- At least three years of experience in academic advising, student services, counseling, or related field in higher education.
- Familiarity with Banner and Degree Works.
- A Board‑Certified Coach credential or International Coaching Federation‑recognized certification program.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administration.
- Ability to identify barriers to student success and facilitate effective remedies.
- Ability to synthesize information and prioritize goals.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal platforms.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to utilize advising software tools.
Ball State University offers paid 24 vacation days, 12 sick days, and 10 holidays a year. Paid parental leave is 6 weeks.
