About this opportunityThe Rinker Center for Global Affairs at Ball State University invites applications for the position of International Student Success Advisor. This position develops and implements programs and initiatives that promote intercultural learning, global awareness, and meaningful cross-cultural engagement among domestic and international students. Through collaboration with campus partners, student organizations, faculty, and staff, this position creates opportunities for students to build intercultural competence, develop global perspectives, and engage across differences.

Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to support student programming and events.

What you'll do and what you'll bring Position FunctionThe International Student Success Advisor will advise, guide, and support International Students. In addition, the position will provide comprehensive academic coaching and student success strategies to help students maintain academic progress and timely degree completion, to ensure appropriate and accurate academic records, to execute departmental/divisional administrative policies, and to use judgement and discretion appropriately. This position will also support onboarding and culturing international students, as well as work collaboratively with units around campus to enhance the international student experiences at Ball State University.
Duties & Responsibilities- Manage and maintain regular contact with international students to nurture them and assist in their academic journey.
- Support international students and provide services in person and remotely, as needed.
- Support existing international students' programing activities, fostering new ones aiming at cross‑culturing international and domestic students, as well as globalization of the campus community.
- Provide guidance to students and be a point of contact for campus resources aiming at enhancing the international student experience and developing cultural competencies, including tax resources, sexual assault awareness and prevention training, and Office of Disability Services.
- Maintain a line of communication with international students and assist those having difficulty by facilitating existing Rinker Center for Global Affairs resources or pointing international students to other available campus resources.
- Serve as a coach and mentor to international students to aid in their development of the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and beliefs they need to succeed in college and their careers.
- Collaborate with students' assigned academic advisor(s) to help students understand and develop a degree plan and timely graduation plan.
- Collaborate directly with the Assistant Director of Global Initiatives at the Rinker Center for Global Affairs on data needs to make informed decisions aiming at better assisting the students and increasing international students' success and retention.
- Collaborate with other units and members of the Rinker Center for Global Affairs and Enrollment Planning and Management (EPM) to successfully implement the strategic goals established by its center's leadership team.
- Participate in regular training and professional development to maintain and increase skill set.
- Pursue state and regional involvement in international services professional organizations.
