Burris Laboratory School welcomes applications for a dedicated and compassionate Title I Paraprofessional. This position works up to 30 hours per week, 10 months out of the year serving Burris students by providing assistance with literacy and math strategies.
What you’ll do and what you’ll bringPosition Function:
The Title 1 Paraprofessional position is a 10-month opportunity supporting Burris Title 1 students, in accordance with the Indiana Department of Education. Contributing to a positive and professional learning environment, the Title I paraprofessional must stay current with all required certification, use literacy strategies to assess student progress toward literacy mastery and work with the Title 1 teacher, classroom teachers, and interventionists to implement and progress monitor math strategies and fact acquisition.
- Provide academic support for reading and math mastery by tutoring and assisting students individually or in small groups, reinforcing learning concepts presented by the Title 1 and/or other classroom teacher.
- Use Tier 2 and Tier 3 literacy strategies in both individual and small groups settings, effectively communicating student needs and improvements.
- Support classroom teacher in monitoring students during independent work to assess for and provide needed differentiation accommodations in the classroom setting.
- Complete all required Title 1 trainings and certifications annually, as required by the Indiana Department of Education.
- Complete and all additional training on literacy methods such as Orton Gillingham; incorporate literacy strategies in daily instruction.
- Partner with the Title 1 and classroom teachers to design interventions and progress monitoring for individual students.
- Recognize and respect confidentiality in all aspects of student information, understand and uphold the Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Organizes results of student assessments and files records for the Title 1 and classroom teacher.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Associate's degree or an additional two years of related experience will be accepted in lieu of an associate's degree.
- One year experience working with students in a school setting.
- Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience working with students in a Title 1 setting.
