Job Purpose

Responsible for the planning, implementation, and coordination of all Quality Management Systems program for assigned divisions. Establish and maintain quality surveillance programs in accordance with Progress Rail contract requirements, standards, and best practices.

Key Job Elements
  • Responsible for managing Quality engineers, supervisors, and specialists.
  • Manage QMS across multiple facilities ensuring quality operations and continual improvement.
  • Monitor QMS metrics and communicate with key stakeholders regarding quality.
  • Contribute and assist in the development of a Quality Control plan based on prevention.
  • Assist team members in resolving issues and provide recommendations for solutions.
  • Communicate with customers, suppliers, regulatory and management team members in support of continual improvement.
  • Work with the team to implement preventive/corrective actions and improve process and overall product quality.
  • Work with team members to plan and complete product launches on schedule.
Advanced Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understanding of M‑1003, ISO 9001 and other industry standards and practices as required.
  • Participate in industry/regulatory committee roles.
  • Understand AAR policies and standards.
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
  • Strength:
    Position requires lifting of 50 lbs. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces while installing or repairing machinery and components.
  • Motion:
    Position requires standing and/or walking the majority of the day. Frequent walking, squatting, kneeling, and climbing of steps and stairs.
  • Vision/Hearing Requirements:
    Exposed to high levels of noise and vibration from using tools. Position is exposed to cutting torches and welding operations. Proper PPE is required. Position requires the ability to read DQWI and schematics and understand instructions.
  • Work Environment:
    Position can be located inside or outside, dependent on situation. Inside, employees are subject to temperature extremes in non‑temperature‑controlled environments. Outside, employees are subject to all weather elements. Employees work with oils and other lubricants.
  • Emotional Demands:
    Expected to work and cooperate as part of a team to meet quality and production requirements.
  • Safety:
    Position is safety sensitive, requiring work around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Strict adherence to safety policies (i.e., blue flag) and use of all PPE.
Education / Training

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field preferred.

Qualifications and Experience
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a QMS.
  • Experience in auditing and inspection processes.
  • Experience with manufacturing and production processes and principles.
  • Experience problem solving in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience and strong skill sets working with continuous improvement methodologies, tools, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working with internal and external customers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • NDT experience and/or certification a plus.
  • Statistical analysis and quality assurance skills.
