Position Summary
Responsible for the implementation and delivery of the company’s Environmental, Health and Safety systems for the Muncie Facility. The Safety Specialist is pivotal in ensuring compliance to relevant legislation and codes of practice, taking proactive and reactive actions to ensure the business is compliant at all times. Responsible for implementation and supervision over Global EHS Standards on local level as well as the Safety KPI, EHS Action plan and others relevant to EHS standards throughout the company.
EssentialFunctions / Key Deliverables
- Implement and ensure proper compliance at the site for all Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and systems.
- Ensure that EHS presence is constant on the production floor.
- Ensure ongoing compliance with local law and regulations and requirements regarding occupational health and safety, environmental as well as company standards.
- Maintain conformity with internal instructions and procedures as well as environmental monitoring with the requirements of environmental permit, with the assistance from the Environmental Engineer.
- Develop and implement risk assessments.
- Investigate and prevent accidents, including Root Cause Analysis.
- Maintain health programs in line with sickness/absence prevention and improving employee welfare.
- Liaise with occupational health and safety officials as required.
- Liaise with environmental authorities and inspections as required.
- Carry out safety audits and inspections on site and identify areas of improvement.
- Prepare, schedule, and assist in training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, environmental expectations and other relevant topics.
- Liaise with management team, particularly engineering, to ensure that activities of contractors conform to all legislative requirements and with production department, logistics and warehouse to ensure proper waste management.
- Provide support and advice to management team and employees on matters of health and safety and environment for the Olyphant Facility.
- Communicate relevant EHS expectations to the workforce.
- Review, update and maintain EHS documentation and management systems, including training records, training materials, policies and procedures, operating manuals and other relevant documentation specific to the Olyphant site.
- Review, monitor and report on local performance in Health, Safety and Environmental matters.
- Review and monitor EHS Action Plan implementation and progress and monitor Safety KPI performance.
- Ensure first responders are in place and training is up to date.
- Set up and maintain minutes for a joint hourly/salary health and safety committee.
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of local systems, including performing internal audits as required.
- Ensure an effective contractor safety program is developed, executed, and updated when required.
- Comply with internal and external audits.
- Always use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), create a proactive approach to PPE in the factory.
- When needed, assist the Environmental Engineer with all permitting requirements to ensure facility is in full compliance with regulatory issues.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management (or related/similar field) and/or significant experience in a related/similar field.
- Excellent knowledge of location‑specific EHS requirements, including local legislation and OSHA.
- Safety, Quality and Cost driven multi‑tasker capable of managing several key teams in a high volume, customer‑centric environment.
- High volume consumer‑product manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Strong leadership skills with ability to establish meaningful objectives and hold teams accountable for execution.
- Previous involvement with ISO standards is a plus.
- Previous manufacturing background is a plus.
