About this opportunityThis job opportunity will provide the chance to work with a team-oriented department at Ball State. This position provides you the support you need to succeed, but also the independence to work on your own while taking on a variety of interesting job tasks and assignments.
This is a 10 month job assignment with June and July off annually. This position will primarily be assigned to driving the Charlie Charter transport service provided by Parking Services.
The current schedule is 4:00pm to 12:30am Sunday through Thursday and is subject to change. This second shift position offers a $0.50 shift premium.
What you'll do and what you'll bring Position FunctionPerform ticketing of vehicles, provide customer service, conduct emergency phone checks on exterior emergency phone boxes, booting/towing and various errands; perform duties related to maintenance and repair of all parking meters; assist with traffic flow at university events.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform data entry on portable electronic ticket writer for ticketing of vehicles that are in violation of Ball State University rules and regulations; coordinate booting and towing of vehicles.
- Provide guidance and customer service to Ball State University faculty, staff, and students by informing them of parking and transportation regulations and options. Acquire and maintain knowledge of Ball State University policies, procedures, rules and regulations as they pertain to Parking Services and Public Safety operations; follow written departmental policies and procedures; attend periodic training as it relates to this position.
- Serve as needed for the Motor Assist Program; unlock vehicles, jumpstart vehicles, inflate tires, transport motorists to gas stations, and attend to other parking problems; serve as needed to drive the Charlie's Charter van.
- Install barricades and temporary signage for special events; report missing signage as appropriate; assist with special event overtime assignments for university concerts, athletic events, or any other event as needed; assist in preparation and activities related to special campus events such as move‑in, move‑out, commencement, homecoming, Emens shows, etc.
- Collect monies and monitor and inspect equipment in all parking garages daily or as needed to ensure proper operation and paper rolls do not run out; transport all monies to bank daily or as needed for deposit; turn all financial documents into Parking Services bookkeeper.
- Perform annual maintenance on electronic meters (replacing batteries and numbering); repair malfunctioning, broken, or vandalized meters or signage; determine extent and nature of problem and coordinate work repair through shops for specialized work or vendor support.
- Install or remove parking instructional and directional signage as needed or required and coordinate and monitor installation of new or existing sign posts; report problems with signage to appropriate supervisors and coordinate work orders through shops for needed work.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Over three months of customer service experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and be insurable under the university's auto fleet policy.
- Must be able to read and comprehend all University policies, procedures and communications.
- Must be able to perform all mental and physical requirements as outlined in each job duty.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Over one year of customer service experience.
- Possess basic automotive knowledge.
- Ability to handle stressful situations.
